Skin a frog (dead critter content)

"Big Man" to spear a frog. Just a thought if someone would spear a helpless animal, i feel for the children. Oh nevermind Nascar's on.

Something we do is cut them along the "hinge" in the back. Makes it pretty easy to seperate the wanted from the unwanted. Then just peel the skin off like a pair of pants. Cut off the skin and foot at the ankle with a large pair of wire cutters. Quick easy work.

Frogs, by the nature of their feeding habits, are "helpful" animals, not "helpless." Their children are tadpoles, so we don't "spear" them. ;) :thumbup:

Those frogs were responsible for the killing and eating of thousands of helpless insects. Never forget. :p

(Plus they look gosh-dang-delicious!):thumbup::D

and the frogs children eat the children of said helpless insects that bite the crap out of you when gigging thoes delicous frogs :p:D

great stuff, thx for the info!

i know i would have no problem eating the catfish or crawdads, but i may be to citified to go for the frogs and turtles. actually i could eat the turtles i think.

but i have an amphibian phobia. and lizards freak me a bit. snakes are no problem, but snakes with legs, eeeek!

tom, frog legs are good and well worth the trouble to get and they dont bite. you could "taze them" if you're scared of something with no teeth or claws :p
if you can get some at the store or a local eatery, try some and you'll be out frog gigging in no time for them.

It's getting that time of year again. Got a couple decent ones this weekend and though I'd post a pic of one skinned out whole to show how much meat you can get off one, need be.

very informative with excellent pics. when young we hunted the stock ponds in texas with 22s. that is hardly possible anymore, you need to hit the frog in head or neck- head juncture. other impacts allow a shot frog to still jump & be wasted since water retrival at nite is difficult. great eating but extended drought in much of texas makes this a rare treat.--dennis

I love frog legs. I'm more accurate with my pellet gun than a gig though. I prefer it to a .22 since .22's are so freakin' loud when you're hunting things that spook easily.

Thank you for this great tutorial! I'm a a pretty big guy, guess that means I could spear some! :D I only had frog legs once at a restaurant, I remember thinking it was a lot like chicken, but the muscles were arranged differently. It was tasty, now I want to try this! I don't think our frogs are that big, though.

I should post some of my hog processing pics - I shoot the poor defenseless hog while still in the trailer, gaff his mouth, pull him out and cut his throat. When she gets good enough grades in school, I let my daughter shoot him. Oh, the humanity!

Forgive me if I'm being a bit dense here. I love frog legs. any way you cook 'em. About that snapping turtle, are those actually edible? If so, I'm always game (no pun intended) for trying somthing new and would love to see the rest of the cleaning tutorial.

Great post. Gigging frogs can save you a trip to the meat counter at the grocery store. In alot of states, bullfrogs have been introduced and eat native frogs, small birds and anything they can swallow. Bullfrogs look good
in a frying pan. Thank you.
