Skinner I Just finished

Right track? You're in the race track guy. That's one heck of a first knife.
I still would love to know more how you welded the quarters. Do they melt at such low temps that oxygen isn't an issue? any photos as to how you stacked them?
Is it against the law to destroy money? :)

Thanx, but this is not my first knife. I may have just started 2 months ago, but in that time I have made 5 skinners, 1 fillet, 1 ? out of forge welded chainsaw chain, and 4 railroad spike knives. I have been extremely busy with this new hobby. I have been trying to learn everything I can through trial and error experiences. I believe that is the best way to learn when you have no other teacher besides yourself and the net. I made my first sale a week ago. It was a railroad spike I posted on this forum. I sold it to a friend in VA to use as a letter opener/desk ornament. I am very proud but humble of the progress I have made in such a short time. I just hope my progress continues indefinately. I owe alot to this forum and two books I purchased. If you do not have them, do yourself a favor and purchase them. They are The $50 Knife Shop and How to Make Knives.

As far as the legality of 'destroying' money... I am no lawyer, just a backwoods country boy who saw it as a way to increase the looks of an art piece. If it was illegal, the zoos would not have a machine that presses pennies out with thier name on it. When I weld some quarters again, I will try to take some pics and post it to this forum. I do know if you get the quarters too hot the copper will melt and ruin the stack. Basically, you are 'sweating' them together, then forging them even further. I may be wrong with this terminology, but that is the way my mind sees it. I have seen a tutorial on it, but using a slightly different method than mine. Here is a link to some great tutorials .
