Last night coming home on the interstate I saw a crow feeding on a skunk, in the passing lane. Maybe they have no sense of smell !! This morning I was told of a way to rid your property of skunks. They can't digest chocolate properly so put out a bit of dark chocolate each day .That will be eaten for a while then the skunk will disappear !

Skunks are cool. I don't like them in my house but I don't mind seeing them on the property. (as long as my dogs don't have them)

I like skunks... apparently (i was told by a conservation officer) that skunks are a favorite prey item for Great Horned owls...though that was interesting.

That is pretty interesting. Yeah, I like seeing skunks on my property. I certainly dont want to poison them, anyways.

I do something similar...I leave bits of skunk around to keep my wife away from the chocolate !!!!:D

I kind of like skunks. If I raised chickens I would get rid of them. Tell the truth I prefer skunks over chickens. If you want to get a skunk away from the house at night just shine a bright flashlight on him. You can herd him off where ever you want because skunks don't like bright light.

I had skunk problems for a while. had them nesting under the front porch which was fine with me. the house started smelling all the time. just dug a trench around the patio, put down chicken wire. they live elsewhere now, no big deal. i like skunks too. would have liked them to stay there but the smell got to be a bit much.

Skunks are cool, imo. I thought their stench as a survival technique is cool. (For an animal, of course) I never knew stuff could stand that smell

If you want to get rid of skunks, put moth balls in likely approaches and burrows.

Never heard about chocolate, but chocolate is bad for dogs that might find & eat it.

funny you should mention those remedies! i tried moth balls and ammonia before i moved on to digging the trench and laying chicken wire...neither was effective in the slightest for me but i'm sure it's worked for others

Skunks are pretty cool, at a distance. I've heard of people raising them as pets, having a vet remove the scent glands. Apparently they're smart enough to be liter-trained and make pretty good pets. I have no idea how you would get your hands on one, though... have to find a kit/pup (whatever the lil ones are called), I suppose.

I have a skunk pelt I bought at a rendevous-type festival, and when I tended bar I had a customer who wore a Davy Crocket-style skunk-skin cap when he was out on his Harley; looked pretty darn cool.

I've had pet skunks...even though they were "descented", they still had that faint skunk funk going on...it wasn't bad, but it was always present...Pepe, the male had more odor than Flower, my female...Pepe slept on his back & snored like a grown man!
I read in one post about herding them away with a light...
In the past 2 weeks a couple of skunks have made their way into Camp Bop...on both occasions, when I lit them up with my Surefire, they came towards me...
Critters are individuals...some are bolder & more curious than others...some come right up & get in my face to check me out.
Maybe they were trying to find chocolate!:D

Never had a problem with skunks at all. When I was a kid we had several that my dad would hand feed. Generally there disposition is good unless you act aggressively towards them.

Works on mogwais also. I used to have a big mogwai problem around my town.

One evening last August ...

wildlife mildlife maybe even childlife

he wasn't old he wasn't grim
i wish that i could be like him

i saw a skunk
& that's no bunk
we both were out for a walk

it was late at night
involved no fright
but we didn't stay around to talk

he ducked behind an airconditioner
by the coffee shop
then he ran around a barrel
past the back of the pizza shop

I think he was out to look for scraps
like my friends the rats in new york
i laughed and flicked my flashlight
so he knew i wasn't sneaking up

then we both went on our separate ways
as people do in these uncaring days
