Skyline Discontinued

I want one. That's a nice knife.
Love the classic look of the knife.
I would like a more premium steel than 14c tho.

To bad it will be gone.

Why the h... would Kershaw stop making one of their best selling line/type of knife???
Rich

I really should pick one of these up, as they are still available at certain Vancouver knife stores, Considering, from what I remember, it was the Skyline that got the CBSA all up in a "wadded panty bunch" and seized a shipment of them at the Canadian border. I guess the Skyline was in danger of becoming the preferred weapon of choice with all our "malcontents" and "ne'er-do-wells"?

I think this may also be a case of domestic manufacturing capacity. I did a quick run-down of USA made Kershaws and I got:
The Launch Series (that's 12 different models if you haven't been counting)
Link (At least 9 different flavors from what I can tell)
Leek (technically the Chive and Scallion are still available, but I have to wonder if that's limited to stock on hand. The Shallot has been gone for a while and I don't feel very confident in the continued presence of the other Alliums)
Blur (there are exactly an infinite number of combinations of Leek and Blur, BTW)
Dividend
Knockout
Bareknuckle

I couldn't find anything else. There must be a significant portion of the USA manufacturing capacity tied up in Launch knives, and they keep releasing new ones. Border law would prohibit Kershaw from making auto knives overseas and importing them. I think in order to support the success of the Launch autos, something had to go. Also, Kershaw has been on a good run with the Link, Dividend and Bareknuckle as newer knives. There has to be pressure on them to bring out successors to their recent wins in production knives.

In order to come out with something new, something had to go. I'm guessing this was a business decision. If you compare the relative level of knife-tech demonstrated in the Skyline vs the Bareknuckle, the Skyline looks fairly lackluster in comparison.

I'll try to post some pictures of my Skylines later.

Sad, great knife. It's an easy knife to use and you can get the blade very sharp.
I haven't touched mine in a while, so here it is. I did a tumble on the blade. Made a titanium clip and moved the location closer to the back. Then opened more access to the lock lug.

Im
Love that knife and I feel like it's one their best. Kinda disappointing to see it go away. I suppose it is due for a redesign.

I wish there were a line of regular manual knives, not everything has to be a flipper.
I’m all for a redesign. A Skyline 2.0 of sorts. USA made blade, not assisted, flipper... Maybe a better clip this time

Good point on the flipping, I forgot about that. Unless I flicked my wrist, it wouldn’t open, and that’s no way for a good flipper to operate.

Mine all flipped like champs. It’s a better push button flip than light switch. But if you’re doing a light switch flip, a tiny wrist movement and it hauls a**. The more you used this knife, the better it broke in and dialed in for sure.

The handle shape sucked
The clip ate your pocket
It didn't flip well
The pointy back end made no sense

It wasn't a great knife...not even close to being as iconic as a Delica or a Grip.

The pommel/base of the Skyline had a nice curve to settle well into your palm as you went to flip it. Like most knives, ergonomics are subjective based on the user. Hand size, type of use, etc all make a difference to each person.

I never had a problem with mine. (I don't have trouble flipping my Buck Vantage either, and I read a lot of complaints about the small tab on those.)

I’m gonna try to get pictures up here of my Skylines to share with you folks...

From top to bottom (and not in order of release because I wasn’t thinking when I took the pictures). Most of these are new and uncarried. The few that aren’t uncarried are LNIB.
1760 First Production
1760
1760RD
1760BLSW
1760OR
1760 (this knife is actually unmarked on the lock side and are part of the promos that Kershaw gave out in 2014 to celebrate their 40th Anniversary)

1760DAM (I have a DAM blem that I’ve used as my EDC Skyline)
1760RDSO (Snap-On Tools exclusive)
1760RDSW
1760BFC (This is our very own Blade Forums Skyline. They used S30V steel and a high flat grind; other Skylines were hollow grind)
1760BLBW (Possibly the rarest true production run Skyline...I think 211 were made?)
1760CKT (Cerakoted)

1760BRNCKT
1760BW
1760S30VCF
1760S30VBCF (These two are a low numbered, serialized pair. If you ever wondered what happened to the extra S30V High Flat Grind blades from the BF run, here you go)
1760CKTOR
1760 (Aug08 date, this was my “First Production” specimen until I got one stamped as such)

1760NG10BLK
1760NG10 (I guess these natural G10 exclusives offered by BladeHQ will be the last unique model number Skylines made by Kershaw)
1761OL (This is one of the imported XL Skylines. They were such crap that I didn’t bother collecting them all and don’t consider them “real” Skylines. There were 3 other variants; Olive handle with black blade and black handles with satin and black blade. In hindsight, I guess seeing these we shoulda known the Skyline was doomed)
1084 (fixed blade, actually a really decent knife)
1084OR (the fixed blade Skylines came with a crappy vinyl sheath, some after market Kydex options were much better)

Thats what I have for discreet production Skylines. I have some mods and customs I’ll try to post tomorrow.

^ Exactly!^
Hit the nail right on the head.

I blame Nutnfancy for the popularity of this knife. I remember That vid. The way he praised it you would've thought it came out of the CRK factory in Idaho.
It was actually after I bought the Skyline (along with that extremely overhyped POS SOG Flash) when I realized Nutn knows almost nutn about knives. Especially when it comes to EDC.

wow, I never knew so many models existed - (or that you collected them all Hackenslash) that is some real dedication ; )

I liked them for their simplicity more than anything. Pocket clip definitely needed work, but the way the flipper tab made a finger guard when deployed, and how well the knife locked into my hand in multiple grips made it my EDC for years.

Not sure they will bring the Skyline back, if they don't I'm hoping for a $70 USA Atmos-like design.
