Why is the Skyline so popular?
I have had one for about two years and it has survived a couple field exercises and earthquake relief in Haiti. No complaints except for I would like to see one slightly larger to make it easier to open when wearing gloves. I bought it on a whim with no expectation of a long life for a $35 knife from Wallys, boy was I wrong. Would have loved to have had a fixed blade model in Haiti.

I have heard a few people refer to it as the next Buck 110, from people who have carried a 110 forever. Not sure I would go that far, but it has to be one of the best under $50 knives currently on the market.

Has anyone had any problems with rust on these? Had a minor issue with that in Haiti but not since coming back to the states.

I blame 5.56
See this thread....30-knife-kicked-the-Sebenza-out-of-my-pocket
Usually somewhere on page one.

I haven't had any rust issues with mine but I coat them with a dry lubricant.

Why is it so popular? I think its mostly an aesthetic thing. People just like the feel, the look, and the flip. It also helps that its very thin and lightweight. And affordable. I don't know that the Skyline is objectively better than the competition, but it has a certain flavor to it that attracts people.

Powernoodle hit the main points on the head:

Lightweight

Thin

Affordable

Looks good

Now add to that a scary sharp blade....what's not to like? :D

I don't think you can fairly say it's the next Buck 110. It's an entirely different type of knife, and Buck has dang near 50 years of history behind it.

Having said that.....Give the Skyline time....:D

Well, it looks like I am not needed here. :p

OP answered his own question. And the rest of you nailed it.

It's got a slim profile, light to carry, smooth flipper action, EDC-sized, good ergos and grip, can carry it tip up or down, its made with good materials right here in the US, its extremely affordable, and the company that makes it has the best warranty in the business.

If your type of use gives you problems with spotting on the blade, there's also a DLC version:

I never knew a DLC version of the Skyline in tan or brown G10 existed!

Get a Skyline! I had one for the past year and it's really worth the money.

It's just an awesome knife. I used to not like it as soon as it came out. However over the years I have learned how to properly use the flipper and it works perfectly. For me it is a must have knife. I have given one away to a friend as well. Just recently bought one of the last ones that Wal-Mart had in stock. It's an "extra" in case they discontinue them....I sure hope not.

That Damascus one that Rob has is over the top cool.I've looked around but haven't found one yet.

I got one as a gift from my friend about two weeks ago. Its been on my person ever since! I really like this knife. I am going to pick up three or four to give as Christmas gifts!

I don't have one because it's a little small, but I do love the design. I still want to see a 4" version though.

While we're dreaming, can I get a Ti framelock Skyline? Thanks Thomas.

I carry one every day. They are light, well built, non threatening, have a thin blade, are made by a great company, look great and feel great in hand.
All you have to do is carry one for a few days and most likely you will see why so many people like it.
Go pick one up and feel the magic!

What everyone else said, and I like the simple lines of the design. It took a bit to grow on me, but it's great.
