Sky's Build Your Own Sheath Giveaway - - - Take 2

My 2nd and Final Entry: The Tool Heavy Woodsman--Hes a BAMF! This would be a dangler style BK9/BK16 Combo Sheath with a Baldric-style carry option (for those of us wishing to keep our pants up). Once again I apologize for the poor artistry and things not quite drawn to scale. First, here is the sheath--A slightly tapered combo sheath with dangler loop and D-ring
2013-02-26_02-26-11_395_zps939fce5e.jpg

Next is the very simple baldric conversion piece--it just slides in through the dangler loop (maybe there should be a strap that is attached to the back of the part that goes through the dangler loop and snaps behind the sheath to keep it from sliding out--I can attempt to draw that up if need be)
2013-02-26_02-26-50_683_zps1d1408ff.jpg

A photo of how the baldric conversion piece would look like inserted into the dangler loop and with a shoulder sling/belt attached (unsure of how to attach shoulder strap to D-rings--would a loop folded over with snaps be strong enough?)
2013-02-26_02-27-09_347_zpsf00cec22.jpg

On the shoulder strap would be a removable altoids tin pouch and a removable pocket 14 sheath that is carried ranger-style--On the back side of the shoulder strap would be two loops sewn in where the straps for the sheath and pouch would go through to keep them in place (not sure how to get good enough retention so 14 wouldnt fall out--best leave that up to the pro)
2013-02-26_02-27-24_887_zpse8e12c23.jpg

The other thing the sheath would need is a way to keep it at your side---maybe a small snapped loop that could fit through someones belt (for their pants) and through the unused D-ring in the dangler loop on the sheath.................

Ok so I lied. This will be my last entry. Its a little out of the box. I have been thinking about making something like this for some time now but think it's way beyond my skill level ( I would have a hard time making a leather belt:D). This design is a possibles pouch/mini haversack with built in sheath for a BK16 on the side. Please keep in mind that this is not drawn to scale--shoulder straps need to be much longer-lol---sorry again for the poor artistry.
This is the Front View:Flap is fastened by snap (buckle could be used too)
2013-02-28_17-02-37_264_zpsc0652915.jpg

Rear View:Straps are sewn to the back of the pouch to keep it laying as flat as possible on your side
2013-02-28_17-02-55_459_zps7df4f069.jpg

Side view with sheath -- (as an alternate retention option the retention could be replaced with a deeper sitting sheath (like a bushcraft style sheath))

--Alternate sheath placement--For more concealed knife carry you could attach the straps along the side of the pouch and make the sheath sit behind the pouch diagonally.

Just wanted to say thanks to Sky for the chance. This a very cool contest! Not only is it going to be cool for the winners, its cool that everyone can provide Sky with ideas that maybe he can bring back to the Gnome Shop and use them for some more of his amazing creations.

Hope you don't mind pictures, but when I usually think up a knife sheath I grab some kydex and make it.

I've made more ,but I don't want to mess up your thread or anything. Kydex is easy to work with and the tools needed are not excessive. I myself need to learn how to do a few more things with it. Anyway, that's my rendition of a dangler for a kydex sheath and a horizontal sheath for my BK14.

OK here is what I came up with…

It would look like a regular sheath with a firesteel loop but on the back is where the fun would happen.

It would have a detachable piece of leather (held to the main sheath with 3-4 snaps. Pic shows with 3 snaps). The detachable piece would either be (1/2-3/4) the length of the sheath to include a leather strop with compound, glued to it, as indicated in pic C. The top piece on the back of the sheath, just below where the belt loop is (on the actual sheath not the detached piece), would have indents and a smaller piece of leather where cordage (paracord, snare wire, etc.) could be wrapped around it as indicated in pic B.

Or

The detachable piece could be one solid piece including the strop and the smaller indented piece for the cordage as indicated in pic D. It could be removable so you have the option to bring it or leave it. If not using it maybe there could be 2 small pieces of leather with snaps connected to cover the exposed snaps on the sheath itself. Maybe the detachable piece could be made of a thinner piece of leather than the actual sheath to help make sure it’s not too thick.

Just an afterthought...(which may be obvious) but with the detachable piece you could use the cordage part as a handle and tie the other end to a tree (or anything) using the lanyard hole, to make it easier to use the strop. Thanks again, for the chance :) some cool ideas here..

Ok, first off, props to all coz this isn't easy and my hats off to you sky!!

Bk9/11 pouch combo, belt loop or dangler, pouch would be large enough to carry altoid tin and a fire steel or e01

The opening for the pouch would be the vertical option for me, too much danger of stuff falling out, unless of course you could work some magic and do it as a detachable option?

As far as aesthetics I'd just leave it plain brown or black with your stamp in a prominent place

Fishsticks, why didn't someone tell me it was March already?????? Per several requests I'm going to let this run a few more days until the 15th. And set an alarm or something.

Luke,

That design is sweeeeet. A couple minor changes needed but I like it!

11/14 wallet sheath.
The wallet zips shut and has a kydex sheath built into a pocket in the back of the wallet. I first thought of having a flap of the kydex come out of the pocket and extend down the wallet to make a clip that you could hang the wallet in your pocket with. I am not sure if that would work out right and the long piece of kyzex might make it bulky/weird in the pocket... thanks again for the chance.

BK16Altoid.jpg

For the BK16, I think a single, large Altoids tin is too big. I would choose two of the small ones, side-by-side, but I don't have any of those to verify the size...anywho, the front:

-Ferro Rod Loop
- 2 small Altoids pouches side-by-side
- Both pouches with their own retention snap
- A secondary retention system

For the back:

- Ferro Rod loop
- Hedgehog retention/release (is that allowed?)
- Horizontal or vertical carry via 2 belt loops with dual belt feed for belts measuring 1.75" - 2"

Thanks for the opportunity Sky!

EDIT...I just realized that my drawing is backwards for my needs...in scout carry, it would be a right handed draw.

Also, my sheath shows no stitching...I'd go with an "x" stitching instead of a single stitch.

Here's one more for good measure...

The front is fairly similar to the last one, but the back will allow the owner to customize the carry and appearance of the sheath to their liking.

Alright...the fronts of my previous submissions are impossible because I didn't double check the measurements correctly. I'll keep the two back designs and make this following image my submission for the front of the sheath.

LOL, I swear I did not get the idea(s) for a money clip sheath from this! I haven't been back here since I was bitching and moaning about having no flare for this sort of thing.
I am amazed at the similarities though. I think this one is the most practical of the bunch, and is a clear winner in my book. Good luck with this.

Thought of one I would like to make, but I suck at leather work. Need a multitool case for a Spirit or swisstool, with a sheath built into the back to hold a BK14. Also dual straps to spread the weight out a little. Get a small round neodymium magnet to use to retain the bk 14 in the sheath. Just a thought.

How about a scout carry leather sleeve that fits over the stock 14/11 sheath. The plastic sheath stays inside the leather sheath using epoxy or is wetformed. Or the plastic sheath can be removable by unsnapping two, or one (space providing), pull over snaps on the top ends of the leather sheath. drawing to follow

Sorry for the delay, Been up to no good.

Thanks everyone for entering, there are lots of good ideas here but I can only pick 2. Please feel free to save and resubmit them for next time.
