A. Must be a Beckerhead, If you get your number during the contest that's cool too.
B. No ripping off other peoples designs, whether on the web or other contestant entries. I have super mad interwebz ninja skills and I know what most other hidepounders work looks like. Use your own brain on this one.
C. You may enter as many times as you wish BUT each design must be materially different than previous entries. As in don't take your BK7 design and just make it longer for a BK9.
D. Chit chat is fine but on topic please.
E. Keep your files, doodles etc. You may need to send them to me if you win.


1. YOU must design a Becker sheath you would like built in Moo for a Becker you c u r r e n t l y own. It can be any design you wish, but it must be realistic and workable.
2. Modifying my current designs or someone else's work is a no-no and will get you disqualified.
3. This is your dream sheath so you have to do the work. You have 2 weeks to doodle and enter.
4. Don't worry about your drawing skills, No need for graph paper and everything drawn to scale, I don't do that chit either. Trust me, if I can read my own designs I can figure out yours. Sooner or later.
5. You must post your entry pic with the Becker you designed it for because we all like mad BK pornage. Entries with no knife will be utterly ridiculed.

"But I'm not creative....."That's ok I didn't think I was either. Doodling is not really hard, paper is cheap. I usually just draw mine on the wall and repaint it every few months.

Let me just start out by saying this ones probably going to be a challenge to make.

Ok, I made this up really fast because I'm out of state and probably have a long weekend ahead of me, so I should go to sleep soon, but here is my entry, just envision it being made out of leather, without the ugly square shape, and this is for either the 2 or the 16, modify the scale for either, but being of essentially the same blade geometry, with the exception of size, it should work fine.

Edit: One of my friends taking an engineering class asked if they could do a quick mock up (he's just learning to use CAD programs and wanted something not so theoretical), this is what he came up with, please note that he did this from only the black and white I posted above and the specs of the knife from the database, my original idea included snaps on the belt loops so it could be put on and taken off without removal of ones belt, and obviously the strap around where the handle goes would have snaps and be sized to the knife, nor he did not have time to include the strop or tin portion either, but that is something that he needs to know more about knives for, but like I said, he did a quick mock-up without much CAD experience or input from me as either of us would have liked. This picture is not part of my actual entry, but I thought it might interest people more than my black and white boxes...

Here's my idea. Not a very good drawing. A Becker EDC wallet. Bifold leather wallet to carry your favorite necker in your back pocket. Difficult part would be getting it thick enough for a sheath but not too thick for a wallet.

Yeah, I am thinking that this would be the only way it would work...Think it would work that way? I know its not all that special...I may change it to shoot lasers and beer out the sides, but I'm all about simple and useful...

Alrighty, now on to my entry.

The longer I carry big knives, the more I realize that they are a tool that can often be cumbersome and annoying, even in the woods. A big knife flops around, usually needs to be tied down to the leg, and gets in the way when you need to sit or lay down, requiring you to undo your belt, sometimes needing to remove other equipment first, before actually taking the sheath off.

Another thing that can be a problem is the fact that a big knife can scare people not used to them, including certain Fish and Game and Forestry Service people, such as the very disgruntled eco-freak Park Ranger who hassled us when I went camping about a year or so back. She didn’t like all the guns and knives we were carrying, bitched about our permits, and in general caused a lot of stress in camp. She’s a notorious piece of freedom-hating bureaucratic crap who is almost legendary in the Uintah Basin of Utah. I’m trying to get my friends out that way to petition her boss to reassign her to her old area. Nevertheless, had we been a little more low-key, we might have saved ourselves some drama.

Now, the solution to this problem was taken care of a long time ago, in the form of an old-fashioned stud sheath. You know the kind I’m talking about; a basic pouch sheath with a metal stud sticking out at a 90 degree angle to prevent the blade from sliding down your pants. You can see these types of sheaths in old pictures of the Wild West and on antique knives.

I have such a sheath on my Ontario Bagwell Helle’s Belle, and it makes carrying the blade easy to do.

Which brings us to my design. It is intended for the bigger Beckers, specifically the Machax or the BK-9. I’d be willing to bet this would work great with a BK-6 too, especially carried crossdraw through the belt with the edge up, like a katana. The design could house a BK-5 or 7 as well.

You’ll notice that there is a reinforced strip of leather at the mouth of the sheath. The stud is mounted between the sheath body and the leather strip so that if the user somehow damages the stud area, Sky can easily replace the damaged strip and the sheath is good as new.

There is a welt of leather that looks like a hook on the back edge of the sheath, mounted just over 2” from the stud. This is there to act as an anchor and keep the sheath in the belt on the draw, yet should not prevent the user from pulling the sheath out of his belt on command. Merely push the hook in as the sheath is removed, and the sheath should come out just fine.

This is a great design if you’re at camp and you need to go get some wood collected and processed. Just grab the sheathed blade and head out, get your chores done, and you can come right back in to camp, pull out the whole thing, shove it behind the compression straps of your pack, and sit back in your camp chair. Easy peasy.

Also nice is if you have to answer the drawers-dropping call of nature. Just pull the knife out and drop it on your day pack, do your bidniz, and then resheath and go.

Now, there are several other key strengths that make this sheath a good choice for the Becker line.

1. Works for either the BK-4 or the BK-9. Keep the Machax sheath threaded onto your pack and the stud sheath on the belt, and you can swap out the Machax for the King or the other way around at will.
2. Holds the knife in close to the body and up higher, which aids in keeping the knife from flopping around.
3. The blade can be easily and quickly concealed by merely pulling it out of the belt and sliding into the waistband under as shirt or coat. You could also carry it that way around town, should the law permit, although I doubt I’d want to very often.
4. Resheathing the knife is easy and safe; just pull the sheath out of the belt, slide the knife in, and return to the belt.
5. Doesn’t require a certain belt width. Any belt will do, or no belt at all, if you prefer suspenders. Just shove into the waistband and go.
