Slash test requests - I grew my own bamboo forest for this.

It's been 10 years in the making, I planted a lot of bamboo. I am now in a position to remove a lot of it. I am thinking of making some slasher flicks testing blades thru bamboo.... also an excuse to buy more knives and machetes and possibly my first sword. XL pocket knives might even get a turn.

Any suggestions on best tests and blades to cover in this project. Funds allowing I will be as varied and comprehensive as possible.

I will start with what I have in my current collection obviously.

The smart way to cut bamboo would be a saw, IMO. You get more use of the cut harvest (volumes close to the knots), needs less effort, leaves harmless stumps,... The Japanese offer loads of very effective saws (I'm in love with Silky, but there sure are others). They have the experience...

You are missing the point, it's not about extracting a harvest. It's about playing with cutty objects.

Well, Bamboo has been used as a medium to test edges on FiF before, and I've seen enough knives do poorly that I'm not sure I'd be using anything I cared about when removing it. Best of luck with that!

This embodies the stupidity of the knife world, bunch of geeks paying hundreds of dollars for a few inches of super-steel edged object and too chicken-shit to trim some bamboo stalks in the back yard for mortal fear they might chip their blade.

The reality is, if I really need to clear some bamboo - I would be using a cheap simple carbon steel machete or the like. The right tool for the job and all that....

But they're your knives and your bamboo, have at 'er.

Could you post pictures of your bamboo? Also how you grew it? I know it’s some tough stuff, good luck on your project.

Be great if someone would post that link to temporary image host site, not starting no insta account.

I am the worst gardener on the planet, I bought a bunch of small plants in pots at a Sunday market, planted them and watered them for 6 months and they grew like weeds.

Lucky for you, Forrest doesn't care about your knives, so have at it!
I personally can't wait to see what you destroy, be it your knives or your bamboo.
If you set your house on fire, that'd just be the culminating event.

I appreciate your garbage response and apologize for hurting your feelings.

Be prepared in a couple years to dig out all the bamboo and burn it. Bamboo will take over everything very quickly.

Funniest thing I've heard all week.....still laughing.... 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Houla, not that we wish you any harm of course. But since you've drawn your own line in the sand with your comment "bunch of geeks paying hundreds of dollars for a few inches of super-steel edged object and too chicken-shit to trim some bamboo stalks in the back yard for mortal fear they might chip their blade", I certainly assume you will be using some Shiro's and perhaps some other high-end customs in your experiment?

You never said which knives you were planning to test, but based on your comment, it sounds like they will be WELL ABOVE BudK level....

In theory it's apparently "clumping" varieties, does not run far just gets impenetrably dense. Can confirm after years of growth this is what is trending.

You have to mention some of the knives you have for people to request a test.
Or ones you have funds to buy.

Use imgur for photo hosting. Just set albums to hidden. It isn't like instagram, no spam comes your way...just a way to host photos online.

If you have an Espada XL, that would be fun to see.
Just don't be shocked if you get a warped edge; I did when chopping some thin trees to clear a path on a hike.
If they run the steel any harder now than the one I had, you might get a chip, or even a chunk missing.

But hey, should be fun! ;)
