Slash test requests - I grew my own bamboo forest for this.

Bamboo is a very interesting material. Properly tempered, it can be extremely hard yet flexible. In my youth snd early adulthood I practiced Aikido, and had a bamboo staff. It was remarkable, and being a teenager I dicked around with it a lot, including trying to cut it.

At some point around 2015-16 I lost it in one of my moves, though with this house, my father may have squirreled it away somewhere never to be seen from again.

As far as the geeks with super steels being cowards or whatever, most "super steels " are not impact friendly and therefore not well suited to this kind of task. Hence why the big choppers are made out of 1095, 5160, etc.

Now, despite the price, I would not mind seeing how this bad boy would do against bamboo.

I believe some parts of Asia use bamboo scaffolding for construction of high rise buildings.

I see socks, clothing, pillows, beds, floor mats, houses structural materials, weapons, musical instruments....all made from bamboo. Given how quick it can grow and how versatile it is it's basically a miracle material.

I am informed some of my varieties are even edible.

This patch is what has survived a 10 year drought interspersed with rapid sporadic flood events in a temperate non- tropical climate so I am guessing by the rules of evolution this patch will be environmentally hardened above tropical growth patches.
I don't think that's how bamboo works. It's a grass, not a tree.

"In general, the temperate climate bamboos are runners, which shoot in the spring, while the tropical and sub-tropical varieties are clumpers, which shoot in the late summer and fall. Individual culms and rhizomes only live an average of 5-10 years, and the culms grow no taller or bigger with age."

Anyway, have fun.

Did you hack your way through a crime scene?

The tape was cut before I got there. :)

I did use the Cutlass Machete for its intended purpose though of maintaining the trail through that patch of woods. It makes a handy path for people when dry and not full of crime. ;)

This embodies the stupidity of the knife world, bunch of geeks paying hundreds of dollars for a few inches of super-steel edged object and too chicken-shit to trim some bamboo stalks in the back yard for mortal fear they might chip their blade.
Houlahound, I agree wholeheartedly, if you got big boy toys then man up and use the heck out of em , go big or stfu and go to your moms basement !
I have some super steel blades and I use them as they were intended to be used, course I didn’t pay a week’s wage for them either. If they get a little chippy or dull I sharpen them with my diamond plates. Thats how it’s done!

I never understand why buy a high dollar knife that has premium materials, great sturdy design, steel made to cut forever and handles made of indestructible material only to sit in a display to look at. Well maybe cut a thread off a garment or open mail. Otherwise just a high dollar fidget spinner that could cut you bad if you are just playing around.

I‘ll be looking forward to your test results you post and hopefully it goes well !

I tried to cut a bamboo chute last year with a GMF3, never knew how tough bamboo was before that. Rolled the edge, sharpened up fine.

Silica, that's the edible part right? Put on your steak like salt?
Apparently so. I googled it to check my spelling and found lots of "bamboo silica" supplements for sale.
