I assumed that the voids were just a forging relic for drifting. It's an old head. Also, there are no areas on the underside to accommodate straps. But, I can see both sides. Either way, it's tight now. :)

You've started playing with fire!
This was at a friends shop. Not my first time, but it's been way too long. I've read books, watched a million videos and mostly know theory, but I have next to no actual experience. It was fun and it's motivated me to get a forge set up at home once it gets a bit warmer.

Next time I'll be swinging this hammer.
 
Here it is, finished. 3lb 5oz total weight, 14". I have new handles, but chose to cut the middle out of a broken sledge handle and use that instead. It seemed more fitting. It is not the world's prettiest, but I like it and I'm going to use it.
