Slicey thin EDC folder

Of the Chinese made knives the Keen is an excellent example. One of the best competing with some of the highest end Chinese stuff in all aspects of knifitude.

Good to know, it looks like a great knife. I just ordered a grey blasted(?) with portals. Kind of Mayo-esque with the handles. I'm looking forward to it - here's hoping it shows up before I leave!

Get the Keen. The Crux was already one of the best bang for your buck knives on the market and the Keen has surpassed it.

If you’ve been thinking about it then go for it. I have 400$ knives that aren’t built as well as the Keen.

Yeeeah out of the blue this comment made me go, "Wait, really? And it's slicey?!" and then research the Keen and then fall in love with the grey/grooved model and then order one. Thanks! :D

The Keen is not an exceptionally slicy knife. Wheras the Boker Exskelibur 1 is an exceptionally slicey knife especially as typical amongst modern folders.

However the Keen is built like a million times better than the Exskelibur. The Exskelibur you have to make sure you get a good example.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Thanks to you all I have two different knives at the top of my liat. After reading through everything my top choices based on budget and what I perceive my needs to be are

Boker Exskelibur 1 with titanium or carbon fiber handle. The front flipper looks intriguing and I like the idea of S35vn (although I’ve never owned it). How is the front flip mechanism compared to a standard flipper?

The ZT 0450 in titanium looks great as well. Very similar to the Boker but a traditional flipper rather than the front flip on the Boker.

These are likely my top two.

BM 943 would be great as well. I do like the axis lock.

BM bugout with custom scales would still be a great choice I think. Where do you get scales from. I’ve googled some but not found anyone with anything in stock this would be a solid knife that I could give my aesthetic to.

Spyderco Centofante 3 looks really great. I love the blade shape. Great value and I’m fine with VG 10 based on my kitchen knives.

.
Late to the party and you’ve gotten lots of good advice already, but don’t dismiss the bugout. It is super light, real slicey and disappears in the back pocket of my slacks. RIT dye the scales a darker color or spring for someone else to do it. I’ve gone through about 30 knives in the last year, including many of the options suggested in this thread, and the bugout gets my vote for your intended use.

I think bugout could be great for me. Just a good little knife. I love the axis lock on my mini grip but haven’t owned anything else really to compare.

I need to research the scales for some custom options.

Did they ever do any sprint run bugouts?

I think I’m kind of off The Exskelibur and I think I’m mostly out on frame locks in general (based mostly on looks).

I’ve really been looking at a couple Spyderco’s as I’ve researched more while listening to the advice on this thread. Of course neither have the natural micarta scales I think looj so classy but they both wear CF of one variety or another.

Smock - very unique, nice hollow ground pseudo Wharncliff blade that should be a good slicer, push button compression lock looks super cool, very cool flipper with no protruding tab, not the prettiest knife.

Kapara - classy looking knife in real contoured CF, good thin blade, kinda big, supposedly carries small for its size, looks like a great all rounder.

Thoughts?

Mini crooked river is very pretty and would fit the billi think.

Also the bugout still seems very possible as well.

That said I was thinking of looking toward so
Etching different just to try a different lock mech than axis.

We Practic looks really interesting. Hollow ground m390 blade, tan/green g10 scales, been wanting to try a flipper...

This one is definitely on the radar.

I've been quite happy with this WE Practic folder for a few reasons;

All edges of the G10 scales are super rounded smooth, better than about any other folder I've owned or seen, just remarkably well done.

Blade steel is M390 and is also ground down fairly thin and cuts extremely well.

Flipper, has great detent and rocket action when fired with a nice solid lockup as well

Loved the Kapara but it does not carry small.

I know frame locks are great but I prefer liner locks for the looks and feels. I prefer to have my hands resting on scales where possible.

The Practic is a great all-around pocket knife. The name is accurate in that it's a practical gem. The aesthetic is elegantly restrained versus some of the more radical or "artistic" designs from WE. It's a bit like the initial Civivi knives but with premium steel.

That said, the Civivi knives have taken over my EDC rotation. I like budget knives because I like not worrying about them. Civivi is WE's budget line and they're about the best bang for the buck in the $50 range. They offer nice flipper action and could be a low-cost way to try out the style. Otherwise, I'd have no reservation about jumping right in with the Practic.

I wanted to fourth or fifth the Leek as a suggestion -- I just picked one up (composite BlackWash with a D2 edge), and the 0.09" blade stock and flat grind put this little guy on par with my Bugout in the slicing department. (I also highly recommend the Bugout, great slicer and completely vanishes in-pocket!)
