Slight delay to start off the new year guys.

Steve, just read this thread on your BP problems. Take care my friend you are in our prayers. I have went through some of the same things. I know it has been said but getting old really does suck! Take care.

Thanks again. I managed to get a couple things done in the shop last evening. Not big things mind you but enough to make me feel better anyway. Maybe a couple more baby steps today will do the same. We'll see. My energy seems to be coming back some so hopefully thats a good sign that my body is adjusting to this beta blocker to control my BP.

Anyway, thanks.

Continued best wishes & prayers Steve.

Just don't rush it...... "baby steps" are good and OK till you get back on an even keel. ;)

Keep hanging in there.......

Good luck Steve,
We'll be thinking about you and hope your health improves. I put a review of the emerson you made me up in the emerson forum here. Thanks for everything you've done for me.
Chris

Thanks for telling me Chris. I just read it. I am glad you like it so. Still have not had the chance or the energy to get my own 7 done up that way. Right now I've got this Persian to finish, and several Emerson's behind that before I can possibly think of my own.

By the way, my 8 year old Saint Bernard is named Daisy also.

Steve,

I too have exactly what you described from your first few posts.
My Doc says it is atrial fibrillation (AF), and I take Digioxin for that, along with my Lisinopril for BP.
Some folks will have to take a blood thinner as well, because of clotting complications associated with AF

I got really sick a few years ago, never did find out what it was, but a day or so after I started feeling better it all went to hell.
I went to the ER because of the heart fluttering, my hands felt swollen and I had ZERO energy. The "butterfly effect" from AF
will make you weak as hell because your hear is not making a full beat.
I had very high BP and very high Blood Sugar count. BP was 220/115 and sugar was 320.
They thought I was having a heart attack, so they gave me a Nitro pill.
Fluttering stopped while I was there and the EKG showed nothing.
With help from my meds I've been doing very well. BP is 105/60 and BS is around 115-125.

Sorry for all the rambling, but I know physically how you are feeling from that.
Hope all is going well for you Steve and they get you fixed up.

**edit** BTW, I'm 35. :)

Hi Steve. Just read this thread and I'm sorry to hear about the cardio problems. It appears you are adjusting a bit better so that is indeed positive. My prayers will definately include you!

Well, I had my doctor appointment yesterday to go over all the results of my ultra sound pictures, tread mill stress test, wearing the monitor for 24 hours, my blood work results (twice since I made two trips to the ER) and was basically told I have no blockage or artery problems and that my heart is fine. EKG was ok other than double beats occasionally which it showed I guess along with the monitor. These irregular beats are still ongoing. My cholesterol is normal and the only thing elevated was my triglycerides which I'm sure is from the holiday diet of sugars and carbs.

Doc said it could be any number of things that started my heart to behaving this way suddenly and that they may never know what it is behind it. Some possibilities discussed were genetics, and my one knife making grinder was presented to me as a candidate for it because of the way that it shocks the crap out of me everytime I go to flip the toggle to off after using it. This one has shocked me quite sharply a few times, once hitting me with a jolt to my balls that put me on me knees but it was years ago. I kid you not that wasn't fun but even that was a long while ago. Its not pleasant when I get zapped with it at other times but it does tend to build up static when grinding with belts and I've just learned to live with it occasionally on all my grinding equipment that uses belts. My KMG is not a problem really but that old one? Man it bit me many times, just not lately since I rarely use it that much since getting the KMG so I can't believe its a delayed reaction to some shock I got a while back. Another possibility that came up for a cause was a little blue pill called Viagra which I never took much of but do have. Its some strong stuff and pretty much floors me when I do cut a pill in half and take one often causing me to feel like I had a bit too much fun the night before almost akin to a hang over next day so to me that was a viable candidate particularly when the cardiologist told me that there are reports of men having my symptoms within six months of beginning to use it. They told me to throw that out so I guess thats out.

Nevertheless, even with the cardiologist telling me to my face that I had the heart of a twenty something year old based on the tests and that I was healthy as a horse (clydesdale) from what he could tell it doesn't change the fact that my heart skips beats and double beats quite frequently. I'm sitting here tonight putting up with it as I watch the tube and type this. Its still as aggravating as it was when it first started but I guess I'm going to have to take the opinions of the four doctors seeing me so far that other than some weird rhythms to my heart beat I'm normal and no treatment is needed or given for what I'm experiencing. I find this hard to believe because the whole experience sure seems to be highly unusual for a guy never having this happen before to be suddenly going through this but that is what I was told.

I am happy that I don't need surgery and all but I can't help but wonder at the cause. I've always been a 'why' person and I'd sure like to know what causes it to happen and how to make it stop. All they did was switch my BP meds a second time to metoprolol now to try to keep my lower number below 90 and tell me to cut back on my caffeine intake and come back to see them in two weeks to check me again to see how this BP med is working for me.

Other than being fatigued all the time and feeling somewhat, well, not as sharp mentally as I could be if that makes sense I guess I'm doing ok. I find myself yawning a lot and feeling drained and that bugs me because I'm one that has always gotten after it and never sat still long. At least I know I don't have any real heart problems according to the pictures they took and no blockage worries so I guess I should be thrilled. I guess your prayers worked for me there but I'd sure like my heart to get back to being clock work steady instead of this random do its own thing crap.. I guess I expected a pace maker to come up but not one of them even considered that for me based on my tests. Go figure.

I guess I can't help but wonder if they missed something but quite frankly, I'm running out of money to keep making trips to the ER and my regular physician so I guess I'm just going to have to adjust to this new routine, and be thankful I'm not on an operating table.

Thanks for listening and again thanks for the prayers and concerns.

Steve,
If you haven't already done so, you might google 'atrial fibrillation'. Lots of interesting reading. I noticed that the metoprolol they switched you to is one of the drugs mentioned for treating AF.
I'm glad that you you are feeling better and that your condition appears to be chronic rather than acute.

Fred

Yeah, the switch to metoprolol was to do that but I can tell you its not working. My BP is still high. I just took it and its 142/96 so its not effective for my blood pressure in my opinion.

Other than lack of energy I'm hanging in there. I think my body is slowly adjusting to metatropolol but I'm not holding my breath that I'll be able to stay on this BP med. When I go back to the doc in a little more than week she may switch me again if my BP is still higher than it should be. When I called her about my BP being what it was the other day she advised me to continue taking the Hyzaar with the Metropolol so that is opposite of what they told me at first which was to discontinue the Hyzaar. Good thing I didn't throw them out.

Anyway, thanks for asking.
