sling shot

Another good resource (perhaps the best), for information on slingshots is a German sight (In English)...
http://melchiormenzel.de/index.html
Lots of old timers on there with great advice! Check out the "links" section for different brands/dealers, etc. This is an awesome sight...

After getting the chance to explore that site, I'm a little peeved at you. Haven't had a slingshot in years, so I thought I'd pick up a cheap one to try out. After looking at that site, I ended up ordering these tonight.:D

Neither of my slings are wrist rockets.... sadly wrist braces are illegal in nys.... I'd love t o try hunting with my marksman...but I'll have to ravel outof state to do it legally. any advice on states where i is legal to hunt small game witha slingshot? While slingshots are not mentioned as illegal implements for taking small game in the nys dec rules I sent them a letter to find out for sure and unfotunately 'No slingshots allowed for hunting"

Your picture reminds me of a modification I made to my slingshot to hang ropes up in trees.

A lightweight cord is tied to an arrow and shot over the branch. The light cord is then used to pull up the rope.

Has anyone ever heard of the Combow? It was a cross between a slingshot and a bow. A man named Robert Blair designed it and it was manufactured by Beeman (I think). I don't think it is being made now, I e-mailed Mr. Blair and did get a response that he was going to be putting them back into production, but never heard anything else. I would love to get my hands on one of these.

I thought about doing something similar, but I'm lazy :p . Here's a link to a video of a super-cheap way to shoot arrows from a slingshot. I like yours better though.

Shoot her in the butt with your new Barnett. That'll get her talking. :D

Ron Hood seems to be a big proponent of shooting full sized arrows with a sling shot. Using them on small games. Guy is always talking about it in his videos and website, his new chopper thing is also made to be used as a sling shot for full sized arrows.

It is legal to hunt small game in Maine w/a slingshot. I wrote to a game warden via IFW recently to double check as the law appears vauge. I shot my Saunders SR-7 quite a bit as a teen in the 80's, now I'm back into it, hook line and sinker! I grew tired of archery, blackpowder, handguns, shotguns, etc, (nope, none for sale!), this slingshot puts the "sport" back into hunting!
So far, I have bought this year... an Oddwing w/stronger band, non-wrist brace, 1965 vintage Wham-O, two Trumark S9's (I gave one to my future son in law, as he bowhunts and wanted one to shoot small game with), a Barnett Cobra, and a vintage Milligan. This slingshot addiction is much cheaper then gun collecting. The wife doesn't notice $10 or $20.00 missing, as much as she would a few hundred.

HA! :D Very cool! I'd be interested on your thoughts of the Saunders Archery double band Wrist Rocket Pro model after you have had a chance to use it some.

Mike

Following this thread for the last couple days made me go out and get a new band for mine. Now I want to go get another so I can put a nock point in the pocket....hmmm...stop already !

Seriously though, reading about lead ammo for hunting makes me wonder: is it actually slingshot ammo or do you use split shot or buckshot or something ? The best I seem to have locally is marbles and the steel crossman stuff (1/4 & 3/8).

Will do. The guy on that German site praised it so much, I had to have one. The Arrow Slinger was just too cool to pass up.

I think a lot of people use lead muzzle-loader balls.

You use full sized arrows, with some kind of hunting point, maybe judo, so it pops up in the grass. That's my two cents, again.:)

Take a look at this wonderful thread:

Judo and other Blunts are good for this type of thing.

Pondering the arrow/slingshot option during an insomnia bout, I've come to the realization that I may as well make my own slingshot just for this. It seems like it would be great for fishing - using basically a long pointed stick...

Looking around the shop, I have some 5/4 Black walnut that's about 6" wide. I've read about making them, but has anyone done it ? I'm looking for advice like "make sure that you...." or "it helps to...." - stuff that isn't readily apparent.

I've got Easton CarbonAeros for my compound (60lb), but they seem like overkill for a slingshot. What about using something like 1/4 birch or poplar dowel ? I'm thinking it wouldn't really need the spine required of an arrow. While one certainly could fire full-sized arrows, I may as well make purpose-built (shorter) ones. They'd be drilled for a standard ferrule so I could try different heads....any suggestions besides an integral (and adjustable) arrow rest in the fork ?

It occurs to me right away that with shorter homebuilt arrows, even 100 gr field points might be too heavy. I think the judos I have are 125...
I like how the combow launches the arrows (bolts?) from the tip...

Thanks guys
