sling shot

I use 3/8 steel for target practice, and .44 (.454) Speer and Hornady lead balls for hunting. I raided my Black Powder supply box. Lead is heavier and hits harder. Exspensive, yes; but if you are hunting it is worth every penny. Some use lead sinkers or wheel weights. I have also used old rusty 3/8' hex nuts, which are quite accurate at 10 yards or so, and devastating on birds/frogs, etc. Don't ask me why, but they fly true. For squirrels/bunnys/raccoons/possums, etc., I would stick to .44 lead balls and aim for the head. I made the mistake earlier this spring of trying to use heavy Trumark RR2 Black bands, and Crosman heavy Blue bands, with 1/4" steel. The 1/4" is too light with heavy bands and the bands wear out as quick as if you were dry firing them. 1/4" steel is great for plinking with light pull target bands, like the Trumark S9's are supplied with, but when you use a hunting/heavy band, 3/8" steel is as small as I would go. For the money, the Trumark S9, when rigged with the Trumark RR1 or RR2 (the black ones...very powerfull!), makes a great, lightweight hunting slingshot, and legal in most areas as it is not a wrist brace model. The prongs are low and wide, which lends itself to superb accuracy at 10-20 yards. And most places sell them for $7-$8.00 US funds. Slips right in a pocket, slick as hell. Wrist braces are great for added stability and power, but if you have half decent wrist/hand strength, I think the traditional fork is more compact and sporting. Saunders, Trumark and Barnett all make rugged and powerfull folding models.

Whatever happened to the bow/slingshot thing by Paragon? They used to advertise it in TK relentlessly w/ the busty camo babe.

HA! :D Very cool! I'd be interested on your thoughts of the Saunders Archery double band Wrist Rocket Pro model after you have had a chance to use it some.

Got it today. My initial impression: I suck with a slingshot. I couldn't hit a darn thing. As for my thoughts on this particular slingshot, here is a comparison to my nephew's Daisy F16.

Materials: Like most other slingshots, the F16 is metal with a plastic grip. The Saunders is entirely plastic. Not a hint of metal anywhere. That's not really a bad thing. The plastic is thick and seems very durable.

Size: Folded up, the Saunders is just slightly bigger than the F16. Unfolded, it is freaking huge.

Pull: The Saunders is vastly easier to pull back. Something to do with the double bands. The pull is also much longer because of the extended forks.

Accuracy: Again, let me say, I suck at slingshots. That said, I hit a pop can from 10 feet away a couple of times with the Saunders. The F16 was hitless unless I got real close.

Overview: I'm far from qualified to judge these things, but the Saunders seems like a very good slingshot. It is very comfortable to hold, very easy to pull, and seems like it would be more accurate than a standard slingshot in more practiced hands than mine. I'm going to continue to practice with it until I get good, but for now, it's not going to replace my 10/22 as my squirrel getter. I'll post some pics in a day or two, so you can get a feel of it's size.

After getting the chance to explore that site, I'm a little peeved at you. Haven't had a slingshot in years, so I thought I'd pick up a cheap one to try out. After looking at that site, I ended up ordering these tonight.:D

Yep, I got 'em. See a couple of posts up for my initial impressions on the Saunders. I haven't got a chance to play with it further, or try out the arrow-slinger yet. Hopefully this weekend.

DOH! Thanks for pointing out your min-review. If it had been a snake, it would have bit me! You know, Saunders also has the Double Eagle, double bands, but made of metal. It's listed on the same page, just beneath the Wrist Rocket Pro which you now have.

Wonder if you'd do better with it?:p
