Slipjoint forum - why ever not?

Hi Phil,
That is good advice, but probably not as applicable as it would have been a while ago. Now that we have a slipjoint forum on the "dark side", I doubt that many will care to post their "interesting threads" in both places ... carpal tunnel syndrom, time constraints, laziness, etc. come into play, ya know! However ... it will be a simple matter to monitor the success of the slipjoint forum you know where.

No Dan. I'm sorry I don't know where?

I just checked out on the Slipjoint forum on KF. It's nice. The folks are coming up with lots of worthy topics about different companies and slipjoint patterns. I'm sure that if BF had a similar forum, it would get a respectable amount of traffic. Personally, I find slipjoint very seductive, although a slip joint is not my main EDC, I do carry at least two slip joints at all times (other than airports and courthouses)on my keychain. I also have a fairly large collection of older Case and newer Queen models. I think that slipjoints are the backbone of the knife industry, they will be around even when whatever cool knife like balisongs, switchblades, one handers are restricted or outlawed. Virtually all of us had a slipjoint as our first knife, as such they deserve a space of their own.

Phlatinum,

I quess the most popular small hunter
would be the Buck 112. Most of the other
companies that make 5" hunters also make
a small one (4 to 4 1/4"): Puma, Camillus,
Uncle Henry and Case.

The traditonal copperheads are smaller
(3 3/4") and don't lock, but they have the
look of the old time 2 blade hunters:
Bulldog, Kissing Crane, German Eye,
Boker and Case.

Check out the Case Copperlock (4 1/4").
It feels great in your hand and looks
great. It comes in many diff. colors of
bone and the Yellow handle one is CV Steel
(non stainless), a great using knife.

........ Thanks much. I think I will have to try the 4 1/4" Case Copperlock ... nice design. I really wish Queen, (or anyone!) would make a copperhead that size in a plain old, unadulterated slipjoint. (sigh) Then again, maybe this is better. (?)

I'm afraid I wasn't clear about the "smaller hunter" issue. I love the look and feel of those big old-time stag handled Ka-Bar 5 1/4" 2-bladed hunters, and was hoping that someone might make a smaller, but otherwise identical version of it, ... say about 4 1/4"! Really can't complain, though, as the trappers fill the role pretty well. Thanks for recommending the Chrome Vanadium steel, too. I really wasn't even sure about that end of it.

During Christmas I received a Camillus CCC4 two blade slipjoint Large
pocket knife. This knife is a re-make of an old Remington pattern that
even today makes a lot of sense.

The main blade is a 4 1/4" long, pull dual swedge tip, cutting machine with a
very thin 3 1/8 " pen blade that is big enough to real work. The handle is
old banana pattern in jigged bone with jazzed up long bolsters that set this
knife of nicely. Being a slipjoint doesn't seem to matter in a knife this big as
is is expected that the user is educated on knife use & saftey.

I've got two now and use one all the time as a carry knife. I'm finding that
the more I use this blade combo the more I like it. Seems that between the two
blade I find one that is always just right for the job. Sure there is no clumsy
palm digging pocket clip & it ain't black and tactical ,but there is a lot to be said
for an old line design that works everyday and is always comfortable in the hand.

SLIPJOINTS FOREVER...............

A slipjoint forum would rock, but a traditional knife forum may be an even better idea, especially now that KF has a slipjoint forum.

Yep, just a predicted......B/F got caught napping & was scooped
by K/F. So much for customer responsiveness. ( sigh)

Hey Tightwad,

Was this knife marked Camillus or Remington?
Do you know were I could see a pic. or buy one?
I did not see anything marked CCC4 on the Camillus site.

Thanks -RSC

Rebus, The knife is marked Camillus CCC 4 . It was made in 1995 as part of a series.
A.G. Russell got his hands on 500 that camillus found that didn't get sold in 1995.

If you go to e-bay now & type in "Camillus ccc" in the search you will come up with
one offered now as a CCC 4 ..257 Roberts . For what these knives are selling for they
are a real bargain. If you miss this one you can go to the A.G. Russell site under "what's new"
for a real good look and buy one for about $50 , still a good deal.

Slipjoints forever.............

You mean you haven't posted in it yet?

Spark: I don't have much slipjoints (probably the knife in my multitool), but I think if there are so many people rallying for it, it's only fair to give it a chance.
How about this... You worry about traffic, and the need.
It's pretty apparent the need is there, so set a testing period, ie 30 days, and it should hit (natually) certain amount of threads. Select knowledgable people to moderate, and see if it works out. If it works out, fine, if it doesn, then let them know and end it.
Sounds good?

other forum.. look at whats happened to their slipjoint forum..
it went off like a meteor from day one..and is still blazing away..
they didnt think it would work well either...now it uses more
bandwidth that almost any thread they got. their words..
you know what they say "BUILD IT..AND THEY WILL COME.."

Greetin's, Yep... I would definately support/peruse/partcipate in a slipjoint/traditional forum. It seems to be the direction that my knife fever is running in right now. I have the desire to learn about the MANY different patterns, their uses and their history. I have the feeling that Spark is ruminating on this and will eventually scratch our itch. I cannot wait.
In the meantime..... back to work.
