Slipjoint OR lockback

I like both. I prefer slipjoints, but I really like a Case Copperlock or Buck 110. I also like the small burl lockbacks in the Russell Catalog.

Slip joint for me. I don't like giving up the second blade option and versitility.

If I'm going to be doing something heavy duty enough that I'm worried about the blade closing, I use a sheath knife.

I prefer slipjoints in my pocket, but like how the lockback are single bladed and can be really really light.

I like a lockback (Buck 110 or 112) but have been EDCing the same Schrade stockman slipjoint since the 1960's... go figure! :D

I'd never be the judge of someone elses tool choice, but for urban EDC slipjoints are for me. Nice friendly SAK or old-school pocketknives can go anywhere they want and are always socially/legally acceptable.

AG I have a slipjoint in my pocket all the time, but I will tell you the one lockback that sets right on my closet shelf that I grab when called for is my featherlite one hand opener that you make. That is a great knife, you forget it is in your pocket.

I currently own 2 lock backs that are not regularly in rotation, whereas I own many slipjoints and carry one at least 5 days a week, so maybe my habits alone answer the question on my part?

That said, I'm not opposed to a lock back design, but my cutting needs don't have me feeling like I need a locking blade. If I did need a locking knife I would probably use a frame lock I have in rotation.

I generally prefer 2 blade slip joints as opposed to single blade. I don't have a good answer as to why that is.

The only Lockback that take pocket time way from a slippy is my Fallkniven U2
It is small and light
The same size as a slippy, but lighter.
And it comes with a superb steel.

Yes I would like something light and thin as my Queen Cooperhead single bladed knife offered in a lockback

I do prefer a slippy for the multi blades.

I like, use, and carry both, but I actually find that most of the time I *carry* a lockback (3 3/8" to 3 1/2" closed -- would like a 3 1/4" lockback, but I don't have one that size). The reason I like good lockbacks is that I really like the feel of their actions -- not for their "safety" (I find slipjoints perfectly safe to use). I much prefer lockbacks that I can open by simply pinching the blade, rather than messing about with the nail nick (and I don't like thumbobs).

I like both, the multiplicity of slip-joint blades the security of a lock-back.

A lock-back should always look like a single blade slipjoint,it must look TRADITIONAL even if made from modern materials. A MOKI is a good example of this etc. So is a CASE Copperlock, no torqx screws ,clips ,carbon fibre, black blades.

I personally have a strong preference for single blade lockbacks, of course I have almost never met a knife I didn't like.

Which do you prefer, lockback or slipjoint? thanks, A. G.

I prefer multi-blade slipjoints - usually two-bladers.

From a purely utilitarian point of view, I would say I prefer lock blades. Just a little bit of extra safety when using the blade. Fortunatly, my life does not revolve around being as utilitarian as possible, and traditional folders just have a vicereal appeal to me (plus with a bit of common sense and care, they are perfectly safe for most all pocket knife chores).

It depends on the size of the knife. Locks on blades under 2" always struck me as a bit useless, since there's not much you could try doing with a blade that small that would make it close. Over about a 3" blade I start feeling like I really should have a lock. In between I could go either way.

Slip joint for me. I don't like giving up the second blade option and versitility.

This is also my exacto thoughts about it.

As to using lockbacks I have a Fallkniven U2 and a Spuderco caly jr that i like highly because of their ability to get and stay sharp.

I like them both, if I had two choose style over the other it would be slipjoint due to versatility and smaller size.

Mr Russell,
I carry both...a SOG Twitch II AO lockback, and a Case CV Sodbuster Jr.
I use the SOG most often, but carry the slipjoint Case because it reminds me of
my father and grandfather who carried slippies exclusively 'back in the old days'.
