When I was a Tenderfoot Boy Scout about 50 years ago, one evening at a camp an older fellow we called "Old Sarge" was showing us how tough he and his sheath knife were by stabbing it in to a big old solid wood box.
Well, he did it once too often and the last time the blade broke and sliced the palm of his hand open for an inch or two so I could see the red meat sticking up out of his fat palm, and of course the blood dripped on everything real nicely.
I use all kinds of knives daily, but since that day long ago I've felt NO knife is safe if used improperly, and every knife is safe if used properly.
I use my knives only to cut, not to pry, stab, hit, push, hammer, etc.
Example: the last time I cut my finger was today, with a knife in a vise, while I was reshaping the blade back with a file. Got a finger too close to the point. Maybe I should start collecting hack saws instead of knives.
