Interesting thread!
Scruffuk - how do you like the mini Svord compared to standard?
It's excellent jwren. The reduction in size has made this one hell of a knife and ultimately more pocketable. Great steel, size and ergos.
I mean this quite seriously; I would happily give up all my traditionals bar this. It's actually all I need in a folding knife.

I recently bought my first friction folder,a Svord Mini Peasant, and it quickly became one of my favorite knives for EDC .The size of the Mini Peasant is perfect for my needs.I modified it by thinning it out with some G10 handles and adding a lanyard.I find it funny that a 10$ knife has bumped much more expensive knives out of my pocket.

Great scales on that, flatblackcapo! Really nice mod!
I have to agree with your assessment here, I carried this modified Svord Mini for a month straight without any other knife and never switched up my carry. I was completely happy with it, the steel is really wonderful, I don't know what it is, but I liked the Svord steel better than the Opinel Carbon or any other 10xx steel I've tried. The knife is so simple and easy to clean I wasn't scared of using it in messy situations and even if the wood swelled up a bit, it was easy enough to adjust the pivot at any given time.
The only reason I stopped carrying it was...well...I guess there's a reason I'm a member of this forum

P.S. this one was modded by our very own Duane (sitflyer), he posted it one day and I fell in love with it and gave him a [trade] offer he couldn't refuse![]()
This thread prompted me to pick up an opinel number 4 a week ago (because I love the size of my 'nut so much) and I absolutely love it. It's such an incredible slicer, closest thing to a "pocket scalpel" that I've ever owned.
I tapped mine a few times with a ball-been hammer to make it just a touch tighter, I'd say it's around a 5 or 6 on a scale of 10. I also used sandpaper to make an easy-open groove and now I'd say it's just as easy to open/close as a peanut. I would definitely agree that a stiff friction folder really isn't much of an issue compared to a stiff slip joint, no risk of it snapping on your fingers and it has that nice smooth, constant opening/closing. Cheers!Hey Cheese, how snug do you have the pivot joint? I snugged mone up to about like a bit heavy slip joint. A bit stiffer than a peanut, but I like how it's consistent with no danger of it snapping shut if you slip a bit. I think I've got mine about a 6 on a one to ten scale, maybe a 7. But I find a stiff friction folder is easier to deal with than a stiff slip joint.
