Slysz Bowie

FWIW, my Slysz Bowie is better made than my Seb 25. It's smoother, quicker, and built to better tolerances. My sebenza is nice and is smooth, but my Bowie takes it. The only thing that makes the sebenza feel nicer are the ergos, which are subjective.

Wish the tip was dropped just a littleee more... :D

yes and yes....

I've had my Slysz Bowie for several months and also have a Sebenza 25 and 21. Out of all of them I'd have to say the Sebenza 25 feels best in hand (again this is very subjective) but other than that, I think the Slysz is better knife. It carries thinner in the pocket, easy to get in/out, smooth, great blade geometry, solid lockup, nice fit & Finish, FFG and finally - Spyder hole! The thumb studs on Sebenza aren't comfortable + they can get in the way when cutting/sharpening.

Some people love the wire clips on Spyderco's, some don't. I'm in the "like" group, but I have to say that the pocket clips on Sebenza's are some of the best.

What would make the Slysz perfect? if it had an Insingo shapped blade and it if was made in Golden Colorado.

As fantastic as the SB is, to say it's better made than a Sebbie25, or built to better tolerances, is a bit iffy IMHO. Also, I love the SB no doubt, but candidly don't see it as a "bowie". This is in no way a put-down of the beautiful knives/pic's in this thread. :)

I agree with what you said, but add a titanium clip while you're at it.

Yes the thumbstuds on the sebenza are another knock in my book. I have to actively think about opening my seb, and I slip off the studs often especially with wet hands. The spyderhole to me is soooo natural. I just *open the blade* no thought at all it just happens.

If it was made in Golden that would be sweet! I'd love that stamped on the blade, but to be honest my Taichung spydies have been better and consistently so compared to my Goldens. I love a USA made blade though for sure :D.

I really like the design of Mr. Reeve's pocket clips with the second tension point, but the fact that the clip (a spring) sits on the lock bar (another spring) and so adjusting clip tension means adjusting lock bar pressure too. I like my clips tight, so this really plays a role in my lock bar's tension. Another hit on the sebenza for me. All that being said I still love and admire my CRK. Its beautiful and definitely has this inexplicable quality feel that oozes from the knife when you pick it up.

Have you seen the SpydieChef? Slysz designed kinda insingo-y dropped blade! :D

Like I said, I really like the spyderco wire clips so I have no problem with it. :)

I agree with the quality of Taichung spydies. I have several of them and the quality is top notch. There is just this special feeling about owning/carrying a USA made blade.

I'll say this about the Spyder hole on the Slysz Bowie - I just wish the edges were a litttttttle bit sharper. I know many people don't like sharp edges on Spyder holes, but I do. Sometimes my thumb slides off the edge - especially on my smaller Techno.

I also love my CRK's and will always own a Sebenza.

Oh you bet I saw the SpydieChef - that's on the top of my list for this year. I'm definitely getting one once they come out - whenever that is.

The Slysz bowie carries thinner in pocket? Even with the contoured handles?

I'd say at its widest (center of the handles) it is just a little slimmer than the Sebenza 25. As you move towards the edges of the handle it is quite a bit thinner than the Sebenza.

As a side note, look at that grind! Pure cutting geometry :)

(The glint you can see is the choil which is actually a few thousands up from the actual edge. So the edge should be even thinner :))

I went and measured the thickness of mine:
Sebenza 25 - 11.89mm
Sebenza 21 - 11.55mm
Slysz Bowie - 11.22 mm

Thanks to a few recent conversations and the bump on this thread I just bought a Slysz Bowie today. I couldn't take it anymore.

Im a huge fan of Ti frame locks. The Slysz looks decent. But I think I'm going to hold out for the Nirvana at this point.

I've never been overly impressed with my Sebenza. It's very plain Jane (almost boring). But the Umnumzaan I find very good-looking. An exceptional knife.

Nice, hard data!

Great decision. I do not think you will be disappointed.

I'm carrying mine today. Love it. Super smooth, not free falling but hydraulic feeling if that makes sense. I personally love the wire clip. The finish on the handles and blade are awesome. One thing I really appreciate is the use of XHP. That's probably my favorite SS steel if not second right behind S110V.

As to the tolerances, I don't recall Sal's exact comment about how tight they went but I recall him not throwing out numbers but eluding to the fact that it was indeed impressive in the knife industry. Without being disrespectful and dropping names, I got the impression it was on par with CRK, and that was a goal of theirs. I've heard people throw numbers around, but the truth is without a doubt there isn't one tolerance for every process. Some things don't need to be that tight and there's no sense in driving up cost. Not to mention it's not as simple as +/- .001". GD&T is surely used.

The single most wanted production knife I want is a SB but with a little more of a drop point.

I wish they'd do a sprint run military with the tolerances, finish, and materials of a SB, but with something like a high hardness CPM cruwear blade, maybe 63 or so RC.

I'd also love to see their Taichung sprint models go off into crazier steels like vanadis 10, rex 121, and 15V. With the tolerances and finishes of the SB and a steel like S125V or laminated K390, spyderco could charge $600 to $800 per knife and get it. Remember, I'm talking about sprint runs.

That'd be better than shirogorov level knives at a much better price for the consumer.
