Small Bowie.....

I don't ever get tired of looking at the knives that you build like this, Russ.

You are one of the best makers of this type of knife alive, have been for as long as I have known about custom knives.

Everything that needs to be there, a little bit of art thrown in to interesting places, and nothing that doesn't belong.

It has been a pleasure to know you, and as fine a pleasure to watch your knives that were already superb, become consistently better over the years.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

That's beautiful! The finish on the ivory and the smooth lines.........makes me wish I could reach out and pick it up.

Those photos aren't retouched? Maybe my eyes are going . . .

On my monitor it looks like it's been run through photoshop, or an image editing program. Almost "painted" looking.

Hi.

Looks like you are relatively new to the forum. Welcome. Most of us who have been doing this a while are used to seeing processed pictures and have come to appreciate them. If you have an example of a knife picture which you think is really good but has NOT been subjected to any image editing, I think if you posted it in a new thread it could start an interesting discussion of this topic - which I am not sure I have seen here.

Meanwhile, Russ, that knife looks really, really nice. I do not see a single thing about it that I do not like or would change. You really are a master of this style of knife. Congrats - and thanks for sharing.

I was going to guess a 6 to 6 1/2" blade. Dimensions can be hard to judge even from excellent photos such as these.

Hi guys,

What a pleasure this was to work on. An easy, pleasing subject.

Russ's notes say this has a 7" blade.

John Skierka: You are absolutely correct; I spent a lot of time in Photoshop displaying this. I keep in mind one major aspect: I'm in advertising, not journalism. Funny, how the evolution of knife photography has dictated it to be so. I'm not alone.

Yes, there is an extra dosage of contrast and saturation, just like any advertisement of a product in a magazine. We like our supermodels with their makeup on. ;)

Thanks for the comments!

Jim

Awe inspiring!

Being the "new guy" is hard. Ha! I guess I haven't been around long enough to see a lot of images touched up like this. It just seems strange to me. Maybe when I make something worthy I'll post some images. I did sort of an introductory thread here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1253180-Best-Piece-of-Advice-You-ve-Received-From-A-Knife-Maker/page4 , that I posted a couple images on page 4 I think; they're crude at best. Cut me some slack; it's only knife number 4? 5?

I didn't mean to offend anyone with my post. It's just my opinion (and we all know what opinions are like) that sometimes when things get overly complicated or complex, it can detract from the beauty of an object. That being said, I do like supermodels with makeup on too . . . :D

To Russ:

Of course, I do think the knife looks great. I can only hope to make something as clean and beautiful one day. Just getting started is a hard thing to overcome. Maybe one day I'll get there.

Hutch...
No offence taken. I certainly don't understand all that Coop does to bring
images to life in photos.
To my eye, the piece in the pic looks very much like it would to the naked
eye, if viewed in bright/diffused light.......which is pretty much as close as it gets.

Also...
I do appreciate all of the comments expressed....Thanks...

This style is one I very much enjoy using, and hope to grow with it.

Thanks again...
