Being the "new guy" is hard. Ha! I guess I haven't been around long enough to see a lot of images touched up like this. It just seems strange to me. Maybe when I make something worthy I'll post some images. I did sort of an introductory thread here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1253180-Best-Piece-of-Advice-You-ve-Received-From-A-Knife-Maker/page4 , that I posted a couple images on page 4 I think; they're crude at best. Cut me some slack; it's only knife number 4? 5?

I didn't mean to offend anyone with my post. It's just my opinion (and we all know what opinions are like) that sometimes when things get overly complicated or complex, it can detract from the beauty of an object. That being said, I do like supermodels with makeup on too . . . :D

To Russ:

Of course, I do think the knife looks great. I can only hope to make something as clean and beautiful one day. Just getting started is a hard thing to overcome. Maybe one day I'll get there.

I am curious . . .

what do you think of this image?

As usual, I took a few images before mailing this piece.....for insurance purposes...

It's completely UN-retouched....but is this an honest portrayal of the piece...?...NO.!

The colors are not as vivid as they are in hand. The Damascus patterns on the guard, ferrules, and cap

don't show at all, and are just plain bland on the blade......not at all an accurate portrayal.

I see your point Russ.

The last image you posted is more accustomed to what I'm used to seeing (raw and untouched). I haven't been around long enough to be used to seeing enhanced photos I guess. Coop's images and the one The Virginian posted really bring out the pattern in the damascus, but it looks like it loses it's luster on the pommel, guard, and blade- like it turns it "grey" and less "silver", but brings out more detail.

Didn't mean to start a war over it! LOL! I did get a nasty email from someone about it, but I'm not sure he understood what I was talking about? He hasn't gotten back to me, but I'm not really sweating it. I had a question about the photos, so I asked. Maybe in the wrong way I guess? At least some sort of discussion came about from it and I learned something.

I REALLY love the handle on this one. It has so much depth to it; really brings out the figure.

your knife looks great in every image posted so far, which is a testament to its great looks :)
Blue steel laminated with damascus- ding ding!
The subtle curvature of the lower quillion is very nice and continues the flow found elsewhere.
Great job.

Thanks a bunch, guys. This has been fun and educational........
Can't beat that.....

Russ's image is a typical 'knifemaker' image: just enough information to show how nice it is, and yet more than enough poorly shown lighting to lose the impact of the all-important 'First Impression'.

I talk about this in my link in my sig (makers read post 815).

The Virginian's spectacular image is a great transition from my 'enhanced' views to something that *appears* unmodified. That's skillful work.

Good thread. :)

Coop (who did not send any nasty emails, BTW.... ;))

Yes. Though we both remember the days when a "typical kniefemaker image" displayed an out of focus knife-like object on a fuzzy bathroom mat with the maker's toes visible at the bottom of the frame. We've all come a long way - and your efforts to educate others as to both the importance of quality knife images and the methods and mechanics to achieve them has been a big part of that.

Yes- This

And no, the nasty email I got wasn't from anybody posting in this thread.
