Hey guys-

Im starting to get my fiance into carrying a knife and so far she has been really open to the idea. I bought her a small Sanrenmu knife off ebay because I didnt want to spend too much money before I knew she would actually carry it. I got the 605 model and she really likes it. Its a good size for her and she really likes the finger choils in the knife. It has held up just fine for what she is using it for but I think I want to get her something a little nicer for her to carry. Any recommendations? Thanks everyone!

*Id like it to have a blade between 2 and 3" and nothing that is going to break the bank

The measurements of the knife for those that arent familiar with it are:
BLADE LENGTH 1.71"
OPEN 5.20"
CLOSE 2.95"
WEIGHT 1.44oz

how much is "breaking the bank" for you? what about handle materials? does she like g10? steel? titanium? carbon fiber? does lock type matter?

I think the Spyderco Dragonfly II has everything you're looking for, including the choil.

Overall length: 5.563 inches
Length closed: 3.313 inches
Blade length: 2.25 inches
Weight: 1.2 ounces

I would say G-10 or FRN handles over any type of metal handle and any type of lock works. The one she has is a liner lock but she handles my Delica's backlock just fine

get her another delica4, out of all the knives i have owned and have, the delica is one i always go back to.

yea I love my delica4, does everything I ask it to hah do you have any experience with the spyderco cat or chicago or other small models?

yes, I had both the dragonfly with g10 and frn, it is a nice little blade, you cant really go wrong with it. I have also had the cat which i liked, another cheaper option would be a kershaw cryo, except i dont like the spring assisted that it comes with. I have always wanted a techno but that will run over 100. There are alot of small models out there

Yea I have always liked the look of the techno but a little out of my price range right now.. But the latest small spyderco that has caught my eye is the Pingo. I'd like to get one of those along with a dragonfly in G-10 for myself and maybe look at a frn dragonfly or cat for my fiancé

I know you said no metal handles, but (have her) check out the Kershaw Leek. The blackwash finish may appeal more to guys; but other options include the plain aluminum, purple, and rainbow. It's a great size, and a nice little knife (if you like that size - the handles are just too small for me to be comfortable with).

I have an OD-2 and that thing is super fun to play with! That cam system is really smooth and the blade just flys out. Are there any other knives that use that opening system? (Other than the OD-1)

ESEE candiru if a fixed bade, with handle slabs. Maybe not a folder, but small enough.

I lean more and more toward a karambit of some kind for a lady wanting some security in her purse without any kind of training. The use of one is pretty instinctive. Opinions vary along the lines of a Spyderco Civilian and I find it interesting...

If you want a great little made in the USA edc blade, look at the kershaw scallion...inexpensive enough to use it and abuse it, and tough enough to use and abuse it....

I would treat it more like hers now. She's had sometime carrying one you said. Great!!! Sit down, show her what's available, narrowing it down maybe by what's been advised here. Give her the pros and cons, then let her decide. It is her knife, let her have the chance to pick it.

I understand she may not have a big interest in listening thru that, but in that case, why get her another knife? Plus, it involves her, really makes it her knife. She will use it a lot more. Guaranteed.
