small EDC

I would treat it more like hers now. She's had sometime carrying one you said. Great!!! Sit down, show her what's available, narrowing it down maybe by what's been advised here. Give her the pros and cons, then let her decide. It is her knife, let her have the chance to pick it.

I understand she may not have a big interest in listening thru that, but in that case, why get her another knife? Plus, it involves her, really makes it her knife. She will use it a lot more. Guaranteed.

This is the best advice I have seen on here. You may not think your girl cares, or you may think they're not as interested as you are. I guarantee you if you get her a knife that SHE picked out for herself, she will love it. And use it, and carry it. And you both will have a lot more to talk about when it comes to this hobby.

I know a lot of guys on here that will buy their girl a knife thinking "I kinda like this one too, but it's a little small, so I might never order it for myself..... Well, if she doesn't carry it, at least I'll get to try it out!" I have even done that once.... It doesn't go well. You'll make her feel second rate (like you were really buying the knife for you all along) and you will wind up with a little bitty knife that you won't ever carry..... If you're gonna buy your girl a knife, buy your girl a knife. And let her pick it out.

Thank you! But credit goes to odd_duck - he's the one that came up with the great approach! I just fleshed out the idea a little.

Thanks AntDog for sharing and elaborating on my thoughts.

I have picked out knives/firearms for my significant other in the guy cliche way. Just as I'm sure we all have a time or two.

I realized (with some motherly advice and experience) in time my errors. It has actually brought my fiancee into my hobbies in a much better way. At the same time I am learning things from her choices that my jaded views didn't see.

One thing. If she does pick on her own, and dislikes what she got, don't say "I told you! If you would have just let me/listened to what I wanted...."

That will instantly take away her interest, just as it would anyone's. If she makes a mistake, as partners, you both will learn.

Hey, no problem. That's what it's all about man.

And good call with not rubbing their nose in it if they pick a dud..... That never goes well either.

Yea I really like the way you guys are thinking about this- that really makes a lot of sense! Ill have to talk to her about what you all told me and look through some options with her and see what she thinks about some of your suggestions!

Sounds great! Let us know what she chooses, and shoot a couple pics if you can.

I also plan on buying my fiancé a knife soon, probably as a stocking stuffer around Christmas. She's carried my knives before, and even bought one that caught her eye at a flea market once *shudder*

While she does usually carry a knife, it's buried somewhere in her purse and she usually can't dig it out in a reasonable amount of time. She almost exclusively wears those yoga pants and skirts, so she doesn't have pockets to carry in.

I think I'm going to go for a ladybug, as she keeps her keys clipped to the straps of her purse, so it'd always be in reach. Plus they come in a purple FRN, and she absolutely melts for ANYTHING that's purple :D

It's a small knife, but I know it would be used often just being in reach constantly. Maybe this is something to consider for you also? Kind of eliminates "tactical" use, but on a keychain it'll be with her always.

No one solution is gonna be right for every woman across the board, so best I can do is tell you how my lady carries hers. She has a pink Rat 2 that she carries clipped to her pocket. The knife has a lanyard, and she attached a can of pepper spray to the lanyard (in a pink leather holster) and it hangs outside her pocket. Just pull and spray... She wears jeans all the time - she's a biker babe!

And hey, there is NOTHING wrong with yoga pants! Nothing at all.... I go gaga when my wife wears hers!

I got my wife a pink ladybug almost 8 years ago now. She loves it, she doesn't tell me when it's dull though, so I sharpen it when I get to it, and then tell her it's really sharp. She beats the snot outta that thing.

AntDog I will follow your lead....

My fiancee chose a knife I already owned after much advice, thought, and deliberation. A Spyderco Lum Leaf Folder. She clips it in her jeans pocket, but when she's wearing leggings she clips it in her waistband.

And I agree with you AntDog.... Yoga Pants equals WOWSA in my eyes.

Haha yea yoga pants are always nice!!! She wouldn't really need a tactical blade for defense, more so just for daily tasks and her family farms so something to have on her when she is working out there.. She likes my delica so I was thinking about a small spyderco, possibly a ladybug but I'll have to see what she thinks of them.

Might need a knife for defense if she's wearing yoga pants around just to keep the leg humpers at bay.

Yes yoga pants are something to look at lol, but every day for the past 3 or so years makes me miss a good old shapely pair of jeans :p

A ladybug might be a little light for farm work, but you can always get her two knives, as ladybugs can be found for ~$30. like I said before it'll be with her whenever her keys are, especially because it weighs almost nothing. It also has a lock which is surprising for such a small knife!

I can see how a female might be more likely to forget to clip a knife to her pocket before she walks out the door, but unless you're a city-goer, she'll always have her keys!

Hah good point manowar!! And foolish mortal I know it might be small, but her sanrenmu is really small but she likes it... Maybe pick up a ladybug and save up for a delica for Christmas.. I don't think she will take more than one knife at a time though and if she likes the smaller blade I wouldn't want her delica to just sit in a drawer

Personally from what you've said, I'd go for the ladybug just so she has a knife on her whether she likes it or not:D....

...then for farm work and other heavier tasks, get her a small fixed blade such as an izula, becker, or ka-bar 1117 (my favorite). If I had farm - like tasks that needed to be done, I'd take a fail-proof fixed blade so I wouldn't have to worry about breaking the lock or getting it too gunked up.

Maybe she can just leave that one in her glove box, or keep it at her parents' house? Spydercos rock all day don't get me wrong, but I've worked on farms before and I'd save them that torture

Yea that's true.. It would be nice to have the strength of a fixed blade just for peace of mind if nothing else for the heavier tasks.. I had a buddy from college that used to carry around a little anza knife that he loved.. It had part of the file on top and used to say it was a glorified nail trimmer/picker/filer whatever ha. Anyone use those?

How about an Ontario rat 2 they come in pink and they are great edc knives. It one for my wife and she loves it cause it's not to big.
