Looking for a small fixed blade for hiking/camping/small game hunting.

I just want a basic, inexpensive, 3-4" blade that is thin and easy to carry. I would prefer to wrap the handle myself with cord but factory handles are fine.

Any recommendations? The idea here is inexpensive...

you should loook into a gossman PSK... they come with out scales, so you could wrap it if you like.. or scott can put some scales on it... wicked sharp conex edge made from O1 steel... they're mighty handy knives... there is also a PSK jr. and a PSK sr..

Breeden Kat Knife (3.5", 3.75" Handle with thin G10 slabs).

See if you can find a Becker Necker for sale somewhere. They are sturdy knives that come with a skeleton handle that just begs to be cord wrapped.

Alternatively, you might want to consider purchasing a 'Cobbler's Knife' from Ragweed Forge. They are inexpensive, thin, and can be cord wrapped or - if you're interested in a bit of a project - given a handle treatment. You would have to purchase a sheath, though.

Best,

- Mike

PS the Becker comes with a bottle opener feature at the end. Very useful.

Thanks for the offer!

Can you email me some more info? I am from the Ann Arbor area, don't get out that way much.

I will make the trip if I know there is something I want. :)

I'd suggest going with a Bark River: Check out their website to find out which one best suits you. They're all good, just some knives are better for different chores/people.

I know a lot of people would recommend the Fallkniven F-1, but never having had one I couldn't do so with any grounds/concience. THOUGH I DO have one on it's way in the mail to me so I should be able to give it a minor review soon :D.

Some people really like some of the small Busse knives as well. The only 2 I really like are the Cultellus (more like a small pairing knife) and the Leaner Meaner Street (4'' blade or so, full height grind). I love both knives, but for a backpacking knife you can probably get a cheaper PREMIUM knife that will do the trick for you and then some ;).

Now if you're looking for a larger blade.....go with a Busse hands down :)

Nick - I'd love to take you up on that offer some time! I'm only 30 minutes away from you (Windsor). Just a chance to handle one of your blades would be worth the trip for me!

Blow ten Bucks and get a Mora. You won't regret it. Maybe a 510 ot a Tri-flex.

If you are looking for a 3” fixed blade capable of doing the work of a much larger blade, ...look at the Bark River “Woodland Special”.

It’s a big tool in a small package.

It rides nicely in its sheath on the belt, but also rides discretely in a KSF/Sharpshooter Pocket sheath.

Just a little food for thought.

the woodlands are great knives... i really like the looks of the bark river IMP's too...

Look up Ragnar's Ragweed Forge, look for the "Cobbler's Blade". It's a bare blade, with a 3.25" cutting edge. You can wrap the handle any way our want. $7.50 for a nice little blade.

I'd vote for the Bark River Woodland Special. i LOVE mine.

First knife on the left. I just got a new sharpshooter sheath for it.:thumbup::thumbup:
