Small Manual Flippers with 2.25-3.25 inch Blades

There aren't nearly enough good 3-inch flippers. Here's a forthcoming value-priced Kershaw flipper that, mercifully, isn't assisted --

Follow-up -- I waited a year for the Kershaw Nura 3.0 and also got the 3.5 inch model, the 3.5.

My 3.0 was a POS - off-centered with cheap screws that strip when you try to use. The dealer said he had similar complaints from other buyers.

The larger model had no issues but is too large for this roundup.

Atlas 3.15 inch blade.

The photo is Trevor's as unfortunately this knife is living in South Africa at the moment. I've got the identical non flipping, thumb stud version with me here - both are brilliant! I'm not wild about Trevor's clips so both of mine are clipless.

The Positron is my favorite Spydie of 2015.

It's small, light-weight, feels great in my hand, and is barely noticeable in my pocket.

I bought a second.

I can open and close both Positrons easily and, most of the time, use the small Spydie hole to open the blade with my thumb. I like a flipper that I can also open manually.

:)

For me, in that category:
1. ZT 0450 (own)
2. ZT 0808 (own)
3. Hinderer XM 3" (sold)
4. Spyderco Domino (sold)

This range of 2.33-3.25 inches is were I usually live for EDC too. Working in an office environment doesn't really lend itself to whipping out the Large Espada, lol

Don't forget the Southern Grind Spider Monkey! At 3.25 compact inches, it may be my favorite knife of 2015.

Another good option is the ZT 0808. Again, at 3.25" but if you buy from USA Made Blade, they've got some beautiful anodize options for no additional charge!

Finally, the Kizer Gemini at 3.125" is a great knife...available in Ti or the new Vanguard budget line with G10 scales. That Kizer Gemini Vanguard may be the best value in knives out there right now! I can't wait to get my hands on one.

When Reate finally gets around to a 3" blade, I think it'll be a "must have".

Ooops, I forgot for a minute that the Spider Monkey wasn't a flipper. It's so effortless with thumb studs, it's easy to forget

I know the ZT0770CF is an assisted flipper, but it actually flips pretty well unassisted as well. Comes in at exactly 3.25" too

Mantra 2 for sure with a 3.20" blade. Mantra has a slightly shorter 3.16" blade.

Most Brous are way overpriced! Turpin looks real nice with a 3" blade but it should be half the asking prices of $399-$439!

I've been going back and forth on the new Ferrum Forge N-TAC. Nice small size with a 3" blade, bearings flipper and steel lock bar insert. However, it gives you a basic N690Co steel for $515! Regardless, I'd take that any day over a Brous.

Not interested in anything from Quartermaster.

The Smock Southard is intriguing and many swear by them. However, at $500 for a CF version it's pricey and warranty only through Smock.

I have also been going back and forth between the n-tac, just cant seem to pull the trigger for some reason. Probably will soon though. Maybe its because it seems so similar to my 0900 which i love. Cant justify spending $515 on a knife thats almost identical to one for $180? Smocks mini southard is an awsome knife, have owned a few of them. Knife is great, dealing with kevin making one, not so great imo. If your thinking about buying one i would wait for blade hq to to get one in stock and buy it there.

I agree, my nura was a total pos also. Absoultely no detent, blade off center and blade play. Evan at $25-$30 i would expect somthing a little better from kershaw.

The ZT 0900 is just an incredible small tacticool flipper. Blade launches out, S35VN, made in USA, killer warranty.... what more could you want?

I was just about to pull the trigger on that particular spyderco (positron). Can I ask why you feel it is deeply flawed?

I already covered it in the Positron thread, but basically the liner lock is very hard to access and disengage, handles are rather thick, the famous wire pocket clip was a great idea but causes a hot spot when gripping the knife, and finally, while it flips great via the "Push Button" method, it doesn't flip well via "Light Switch" method. I had high hopes for it and gave it a try but it just doesn't work for me.

All of these were covered already. :) But to add, Kizer Gemini while a great knife on paper, the warranty dept not so great to deal with. Also I might add there are a quite a few un-happy customers (me included) trying to sort out things with Kizer and their faulty pivot issue on the Gemini. All I can say is, the Gemini was destined for something great, it has ALL the right stuff, just wasn't executed correctly and with no USA support with warranty it really will be the last Kizer item I purchase until they get their act together.

Odino, while my favorite blade of all time.....is not a flipper.

Well that's why they released the Viper Kyomi which is basically a Odino Flipper.
