Small Stout Folder Recommendation

I am looking for a small stout folder. What do you recommend.

I like the looks of the non-flipper non-boker curtiss nano but they are currently hard to find. I did post in the WTB forum here. The Graham Stubby razel but hey are pricey.

I also know of the spyderco techno/burch chubby/dice but while I KNOW the quality is there, I prefer my EDC stuff to be made in USA. So I wanted to see other options and get some recommendations. Although with current pricing on the Burch Chubby, I might have to let that go.

I am looking for a stout folder, under 2.5 blade, frame lock or liner lock, good quality steel. I think the G10 Linerlock Curtiss nano's were around $200 so I am looking for a price of that or less. Let me know what your thoughts and recommendations.

I feel the same as you buying US produced, BUT it is Spydie!!!
I have a Chubby and it is simply amazing!!
It's still $139 at KC and it is definitely worth a lot more!!
It's built like a sexy little tank!!
Can't go wrong with it!

Knew Joe was going to show up with his Burch Chubby pic. I think he spends his day just trying to make me jealous. :p

If I were in the market for a small stout folder I would definitely go with the chubby. Is it discounted because it's discontinued ?

I really want the chubby (ok...that sounded bad). I have no real use for it, but I just have this sense if I don't pick one up I'm going to regret it.

I would recommend the ZT 0900. Full Ti, frame lock, s35vn steel, amazing warranty and USA made for $192 at most retailers. It's one of my most liked ZT's to date.

Curtiss F3 Compact (2.33") made in the U.S.

Boker Pipsqueak (2.50") made in Solingen, Germany.

Spyderco Chubby (2.33") and Techno (2.55") both made in Taichung, Taiwan.

DPx HEAT/F (2.375") made in Maniago, Italy.

He don't want flipper.
He said he likes the looks of the Curtis non-flipper, not that he doesn't want a flipper. He mentioned considering the Dice, and that's a flipper but it's not a domestic piece and that was it's losing point...

I've been carrying my ZT0900 for a month straight, which is quite an accomplishment for me. I love the way it snaps open. I saw a lot of posts about how hard the detent is and mine arrived the same way. I gave it a week and when it finally broke in it is perfect! Love this knife, and I believe if you look at the way it is constructed (captured pivot on one side and screws that are not threaded into the opposing titanium scale) the 0900 is one of ZT's best built knives!

Get the HEAT man. It is the midget cousin of the DPX HEST. I held one and it was amazing in hand. Stout little knife that feels like a big knife. It's hard to explain but if you have held the Spyderco Techno you will know what I mean. You know how a big knife feels solid? This is very much the same thing, but on a smaller scale. It's a trip.

ZT 0900 at 2.75" would've been my choice but the OP seems to be constrained to 2.5" or less. So, that may also eliminate Techno which is slightly over.

In that case, I'd go with the more compact DPx HEAT/F (under $200) over Chubby. Chubby is wide like Pipsqueak. Also, Dice is not that stout.

Dice is actually wuite a svelte little folder. For a frame locks it doesn't feel like the typical overbuilt frame lock you're used to. For some reason the dice and the domino feel very lightweight despite being titanium frame locks. I remember when I first got my domino I couldn't believe how light it felt.

Get the dpx HEAT. I don't even like RYP or whatever his initials are, I am judging on the merits of the knife alone.

I don't mind flippers, its just with the Curtiss Nano, the Flipper is ~$450 (not in my budget) and the linerlock is ~$200.

The Spyderco Burch Chubby has been discontinued so if I want one I need to pull the trigger now.

the zt 0900 is bigger than I want, I have handled one and IMO its needlessly heavy for the size of knife.

The DPx Heat is a new one on me. I don't know much about Niolox Steel. I will look into it.

How about a ZT 566, by far one of the best small chubby knife I own, assisted or de assisted it works great,
If not then the DPX is great, love my triple black folder

Can't afford an Inkosi at this time. The Chaparral is too big I am looking for Sub 2.5" blade preferably closer to 2" blade.

Al Mar SLB if Japan-made is acceptable. I believe the HEAT is Italian-made. From Oregon: Three Sisters Forge CCT.

Niolox is a German tool steel with good corrosion resistance.

LionSteel manufactures the DPx HEAT/F folder. They're a high-quality manufacturer from Italy. The 2.3" blade is a stout 0.18" thick. There's a glass breaker at the bottom and the blade has a hook for opening bottles or Wave-type opening.

DPx HEAT/F can be found for under $200 with G-10 on the presentation side of the titanium frame lock. There are also all titanium versions and one with Shred CF on the presentation side but those are over $200. The Black Stonewashed model with G-10 is about $180.
