Small Stout Folder Recommendation

The Techno is the only one mentioned in this thread that I really care for, country of origin not withstanding. Great little beast - MarcinS has serious design skill.

I had a HEAT for awhile and while it felt great in hand, I found it was extremely difficult to open. Perhaps it was just my hand size/shape and the position of the lockbar, but I found thing to be a real bear. I have the same problem with the little CRKT Squid. Just somthing to think about. Other than that, it seems a very well made knife, and if it fits YOUR hand, go for it.

1) I believe it's both a bottle opener and wave feature. The knife in the photo was a customer's though, so I didn't test it.
2) Ive seen it called Marbled or Shredded Carbon Fiber.
3) Palm Filling. Comfy. I don't recall any hot spots.

It's worth noting I think that I don't generally like this sort of knife. I find most of them cumbersome and awkward, but I really dug that one.

1/ Yes it's a bottle opener - works well - not a wave feature.
2/ Shredded CF, expensive version, but they have less expensive G10 versions. I have a green G10 / Black D2 blade version that I love. Check the Knife Center.
3/ Very comfy in hand. Sturdy, provides a solid feel. I have no problem opening it or closing it.
I highly recommend it.

I have a DPS HEST Triple Black and love it. I can imagine the HEAT is just as nice but downsized. The notch on the HEST doesn't really work as a wave feature and is only so-so as a bottle opener. If you're really needing to get that beer open, you might have better luck with the glass breaker :p!

I'm going to come out of left field with a recommendation here...the Kizer Small Hunter 3416.

It comes in at exactly 2.5" blade, but with choil the cutting edge is only 2.25". It's got the most hand filling grip of any 2.5" knife I've ever used and feels really stout. The liners are titanium, so the lockup is titanium on steel, but honestly I've never had a problem with that. The G10 is nicely textured and has a great grip to the hand. Great S35VN blade steel with a durable titanium nitride coating. Best of all, it's about half the price of any of the other knives people are putting forward. I highly recommend giving it a shot.
