Smaller K2? Lil' K2?

So they did the LionSpy and the the Lil' Lionspy and they have shrunk a few other models down like the soon to be released Lil' Lum. I have been curious to try out some 10V but the K2 is just a little too large for me. Would anybody be interested in seeing a scaled down version of this knife with maybe a 3.5 to 3.75 in blade?

Yes, one scaled down for a blade of 3.25- 3.50" would be terrific.

Call it the K2/3, two-thirds, even if it closer to 3/4 scale.

For another "K2" link with Golden, Colorado, when visiting the fine folks at Spyderco world central, pop in to the American Mountaineering Museum. There you will find a K2 steel tool from one of the most famous events in American climbing history:

"Famed K2 Ice Axe Displayed

Other interesting artifacts on display include Pete Schoening’s famed ice axe with which he saved five falling climbers during an American attempt on K2, the world’s second highest mountain, in 1953."

(K2 is a beast, and a killer. The second successful summit wasn't until 1977.)

But yeah. A smaller version of the Spydie K2 would be terrific. /8-D

The Slysz isn't 10v and the clip is on the opposite end and the blade shape is totally different. So yeah, they are both Ti framelocks with flat ground blades. Other than that they are actually quite different.

Yeah, I work in Golden and have been to the mountaineering museum a bunch. My company uses the building for training and such. It is the old Golden middle school. I can walk there from work.

At the current size, I don't see it sticking around in the catalog too long. I just don't think knives with 4.5" blades have much universal appeal. I would love to see it scaled down like the OP said.

Most definitely, I'd be in!

I occasionally get tempted by a K2, but I just KNOW it would be too large for me to carry regularly. Smaller version would have some good appeal.

I like the K2/3! :D

Anything with 10V in a more usable package. I sold mine as I just never carried or used it.

Hi Killer,

I spoke with Farid about it several times, but he doesn't seem interested. Sometimes I feel like a rung in a ladder.

Sal, you are the side rails that hold all the rungs in place and help all of us see whats possible up there!:p

Sorry for the cheese.. Seemed fitting:D

Thank you for the response Sal. That is a bummer. I typed a couple different responses and none sounded right. Sorry to hear that. Have you guys thought about using 10V in any other models?

At the 2015 BLADE show I submitted a small K2 to Spyderco, they already have a small custom made K2 in their hands, if they wish to make it I encourage that very much.
I also would like to see the small K2 go in to production which is the reason I submitted the small custom version.

I really like the look of the Spyderco Farid K2, but it's just too big for my uses.

I appreciate your response Farid. Thanks. Maybe just a misunderstanding or breakdown in communication. No biggie. So who wants to see this happen!

I'll host a brunch with Farid and Sal. We can get this done!

Oh yeah, you guys will have to come out to California for the brunch.

Thanks for the post, farid. That sure raises optimism that we'll see a smaller K2.
The K2 Grande is just too large for regular carry and use for ADLs for many of us.

Dang, schweet proximity to two treasure zones.
Good for you, bfk.

Been far too long since I hung out at the AAC....

cheers and HNY

Haha, made me laugh. :D
This could be a video series: "Proper knife techniques for transitioning from breakfast to lunch, with Sal and Farid."

Eric and I had lunch with Farid in Amsterdam last year, with Joyce and Joris.
