after doing a bit more research and finding that most steels melt at around 1800c i think i am still going to buy the tiny torch but ill use it to assist in the building of my forge. thanks for the info and the cool thermite smelting pick
I have the whole process on a slide show from start to finish. Aluminum is the fuel and it barrows an O2 molecule from the iron oxide. About 75% of the iron gets burnt in the process. Since then I have learned how to slow the process down and not loose quite as much iron. It is still a long ways from becomming a predictable and consistant way to make iron. But the learning process is very facinating and with each charge I am taking notes and getting better results.
