I've been busy the last few days since the wife picked up a severe infection from a tiny cut on her left middle finger getting ready and cleaning house for the MWKK.
She's been in the hospital the last 2 1/2 days getting antibiotics pumped in every 8 hours or so and pain meds every 4 hours. The tiny cut (a nick really...nothing more than a mere skin break) got some bug in it (no results from the lab yet) but flared up like crazy. It was merely a small reddish bump when the guys were here (Brian and I told her she needed to get it looked at), but rushed to swell the back of her entire hand and then down the two adjoining fingers. Took her to the emergency room on Tuesday, they filled her with an IV dose, updated her Tetanus and sent her home with pills. By Wednesday morning, the hand had gone down quite a bit at her first followup but the family doc (Walter Venable) is smart and dedicated and said to return Friday since he was concerned. Sure enough, by her Friday appointment, it was black and smelly under the bandage and he had her admitted.
The good news is that she just called and said that they are releasing her today, so I will pick her up in two hours.
A bit of smoke for her continued recovery would be appreciated, but especially wanted to tell you about this because some of us use sharp objects.
Be careful, keep your shots current, and treat every wound properly...you never know just how quickly things can turn bad.
