Smoothest Spyderco?

My old Super Leaf was the smoothest for me, followed by the sage 1 and a standard Military.

I have a brown PM2 that is about as smooth as a knife gets. It came that way from a local knife store (A local knife store 100 miles away lol) and I haven't carried it because I have a beater PM2 and it's a Sprint run. If all PM2s were so smooth, you would never hear a negative review of them. It can't be explained through words - you'd have to try it for yourself.

Other than that, an LGS had a Sage 3 with Blue G-10 (Blackie Collins Bolt lock) that was super smooth, and I regret not buying it. I have come to the conclusion that the best examples of my favorite production knives are worth what anyone could resonably ask - you can buy a dozen knives and never get ahold of one that is truly dialed in. I have handled a new CF Sage 3 and it wasn't nearly as smooth.

Over seven months and thousands of repetitions, my Paramilitary 2 is smooooth indeed.

#1=Domino. #2 tied=PM2/Sage3. #3=Manix2 XL s90. Manix would be #2 if not for effort to close.

Not trying to argue, or to call you wrong, this is a thread asking people's opinions, but my Domino (while it's an awesome knife, and very smooth) doesn't compare to my Sage 3, it's not even a close margin. And again the Domino is very smooth, its on bearings after all, that's just how good my S3 (blue G10) is.

#1...Gayle Bradley (hands down for me)
#2...20CP Para 2 (not sure why it's smoother than my M390, XHP, D2 or S30v)
#3...Southard

This thread inspires me to play with my knives lol

I have handled Enduras that were really smooth too. The ones I have are a little stiffer, but still fairly smooth.

Domino, its my first IKBS pivot folder. Gawd it's lovely :)

Manix 2 XL, Para 2, Gayle Bradley, Manix 2, in that order. Of those 4, the Manix 2 and GB I own have had very little use so far, the XL and Para 2 are used, and dialed in just right.

The Manix XL I haven't adjusted at all from new, just wore it in and used it. Its very smooth to open, easy to flick open and closed one handed with a bit of practice, locks up tight, blade centering is excellent.

The Para 2 took more breaking in and a fair bit of fiddling around with to get it just right, but eventually I did.

My Endura was pretty fantastic. My Paramilitary 2 is also very smooth, too bad I accidentally stripped a bunch of screws on it and it now sits in my desk, in pieces. :(

Smooth and least resistance is probably my Southard. Almost all are smooth, it is just a matter of how much resistance the particular lock puts while opening. Bearings aside, Gayle Bradley, Zulu, PM2, and Chokwe are all really smooth.

Both of my Manix 2 varieties have been smooth as silk with very frequent EDC use and abuse... One of the best opening and locking mechanisms I have tried to date...

Manix 2.
The combo of the BBL and pivot make it drag less than most other lock systems. Replace the pb washers with bearings and it would almost open itself. :D
That's something I'd really like to see! I wonder if this could be a possibility in the future ?

Chokwe. It is so smooth, sometimes I just approach the Spydiehole with my thumb and it opens by itself. ;)

Used to I was always one of the "take those junky teflon washers out and replace them with PB" but I've recently done some experimenting with good teflon washers and they work as smooth dry as PB does lubed, I'd have to say I'd like to see Spyderco use more teflon washers. Not that they need it to correct any issues, but I've been very impressed with my findings.

This coming from a guy that modded a UKPK to take PB washers.

My 6 year EDC G-10 E4 is as smooth and broken in as it gets, after that I have a Large Wegner that is real smooth. I have one of the first S30V Millies that is smooth, but it is almost too quick to open, not enough resistance to where it is jerky.

It is a close call. My Sage3 (blue also) is super smooth but my Domino just nudges it out of first place. The Domino took a much longer time to break in whereas the Sage was smooth out of the box. If I'm asked same question next week, maybe my opinion will change. Again...close call.
