Snakes.... !!!!!

With a population less than 1/10th of the US You don't have the large "inner city" population that we have. Which, staticaly is responsible for the majority of those deaths. The ever growing population of disenfranchised poverty stricken inner city youths has lead to astronomical and unexceptable homicide rates. "Most" of these "victims" are not victims at all, but active participants in the crime wave.

The police chief in New Orleans has been verbally attacked due to his recent stance on these "victims". He publicly announces previous crimes of the person so people get a better understanding of their "lifestyle". Much to the dismay of their families who thought 'lil boukie was an angel.

I live 45 miles from New Orleans (per capita Murder Capital of the US) and I don't go there unless I have to, am armed, and with several other armed people. Statistical chance of becoming a victim of a violent crime there..... 1 in 132.

My close friend's 7 year old daughter was struck in the neck and killed while sleeping at her mothers house in New Orleans. Several gang bangers were shooting at each other and of course they all walked away fine.....well as fine as life in prison is.

Numbers?

Switzerland (Nearly everyone has military weapons in their home) - Murders with Firearms 68, Murders committed by youth 17

Japan (Guns Banned and it's an island environment, so controllable) - Murders with Firearms 47, Murders committed by youth 127

It's not about numbers, it's about freedoms.

Oh, cool snakes... but our rattlers are prettier...

Gentlemen,

I know we all have our opinions, but lets not derail a good thread about snakes into a gun control debate.

THank you kindly

So Andy I have to ask. Have you ran into the infamous Sydney Funnel Web? Or Redback spider? You Aussies are brave considering pretty much everything wants to kill you there :D. I like toxic creatures.

Me and my brothers in law were watching a special on wildlife in Australia. We were AMAZED how much poisonous stuff there was there. And in the water too! Ridiculous.

I love snakes. Mostly king snakes. I have kept a couple of pacific rattlesnakes. Those are the tame guys (relatively speaking).

Most of the handgun deaths in 2011 occurred here in Sydney, the vast majority of them related to Organised Crime plus some suicides. The OMCGs and MEOC have all the handguns (and more) that they want/need and are not shy about using them.

... Funnel Web, not yet today but if I go look behind a couple of lockers in the garage I have no doubt I could find a couple. I SEE several around the house each year, normally after we have had bug control in to spray and they are stumbling out in the open to die. I PREFER not to think how many are around here. Redbacks are very common, I have two or three living under the rim of the Wheelie Bin out front right now (noticed them when I was hosing it out last night) I will go spray them if Mrs Andy notices them. This time of year I am always banging my boots/shoes before putting them on as the Funnel Webs like to hide in there. We also get White Tip spiders in the house at least weekly.

Andy

....oh but I beg to differ... ;)

Good taste:)

We had a Neighbor step on a king brown snake in her house. The snake did not bite her because....wait for it....IT'S HEAD WAS IN A DIFFERENT ROOM! it was almost 10' long. It gives me the creeps just thinking about it. This is tough country.

This made me laugh and shudder similtaneously :D

That was surreal .... as I was sitting here reading this thread my closest friend (we have been best mates since we were kids) just e-mailed me a couple of pics of a bloody big Common Brown Snake ( http://www.billabongsanctuary.com.au/aussie_animals/eastern_brown.html ) he shot at the back of his house (he is out on sixty acres back where we grew up), they had lost a calf to a snake bite in the last couple of weeks so he was pretty happy to get this one.... and he shortened another by 6 inches (with a shovel) while checking his chooks last week.... :D

Yep... where his place is is where we use to go camping when we were kids.... ran all around that but without a second thought (we still do) and his kids are doing the same. Silly little reptiles don't really put us off... :D

How much does your mate charge for Bed and Breakfast? I have an ex wife who needs a holiday somewhere exotic ...;)

....funny you mention that, he use to own the 40 acres next door to where he is now, then moved into town and back out again. The old place WAS a B&B before he bought it..!!! I killed several snakes in the yard at his place as I use to spend lots of time up there when I was single.... :D
