Hey, no problem. That's exactly what I did - but that maple was already scorched inside the pin hole - plus for some reason they were a little oversized or I roughed up the pins a little too much so some of what you're seeing might be scorched epoxy. I think (hope) that once the scales are dyed and finished it'll be less sore thumb-ish. Or the curl will pop so much as to overshadow the dark rings to all but the more discriminating observer.....something that my sister is NOT. I mean, I love her and all, but she's seriously happy with her POS Henckel's (China made) "International" kitchen cutlery, so a semi-custom (China made) knife will be a step up for her.
Just makes it readily identifiable as hers if she ever has it stolen.
