So you're the reason the door on my K5 needs new hinges and it's your fault the couple next door was having a loud argument and slamming doors. For shame.

Trust me, I ain't exactly getting off easy. The universe found out I'd be out on short term this week so it threw us some snow. Enough snow to keep the two bigger kids out of school all week. Luckily my beer fridge is stocked since I'm stuck in the house unable to drive.

JT , the Benton's episode goes more in depth on episode 16, season 1 . No Bourdain or main host, just the camera man and Benton.

Nice. What are the hex head sizes?

Thanks bud.

The bottom hex cutout works on 1/4" screwdriver bits. The top cutout is more for looks but it does function and works on bolts with a .43" head.... If you ever just so happen to run into that particular bolt size and only had a hex hawk LOL

Not sure if you seen it already but 710 also makes a sweet sheath for them that holds a double ended screwdriver bit.

I really dig it. Short heavy blade so it can chop if you need it too and really take a beating. And it looks cool. But even though they look similar, it's nothing like the original. I really like both. Play with it some more, it might grow on ya.
.

I dont NOT like it... But i have yet to use it too so i cant judge it at all. Its just different in the hand, weird proportions LOL But definitely looks neat!!

Ooh, very nice. I am becoming excited.

Me too brother!!

Did you use your grinder this time instead of doing it with hand files? That should speed up your processes considerably.

No... But it would have LOL... I got a bit over 3 weeks of work in them already. Granted i wasnt busting ass all day every day either but i have put in some hours!

Awesome work on the hex hawks WW! Hopefully I'll be starting a new knife soon but gotta couple kinks to iron out first in my set up. Sucks I have all the material I need, but lack the time. O well, I'll get to it when I can!

Cool, I'll try to look that up. There was a profile of Benton's on the local news some months back, but I couldn't get the video to link from the TV station's website :(

Whenever you get squared away, an inexpensive Craftsman 2x42 with ceramic platen will be plenty of grinder to knock those bevels out quick-as-a-wink. I saw on your FB page you're having some of these hawks black-oxide coated... is Peter's doing that for you? Sounds pretty interesting :)

Hold on there, old pro.....

Sorry if I come off a bit harsh. It's just that scorched wood is like uneven plunges and asymmetrical handles... it really doesn't affect performance, but it sticks out like a sore thumb. If you're grinder's too fast, just get to about 95% done and finish up by hand. :)

Hey, no problem. That's exactly what I did - but that maple was already scorched inside the pin hole - plus for some reason they were a little oversized or I roughed up the pins a little too much so some of what you're seeing might be scorched epoxy. I think (hope) that once the scales are dyed and finished it'll be less sore thumb-ish. Or the curl will pop so much as to overshadow the dark rings to all but the more discriminating observer.....something that my sister is NOT. I mean, I love her and all, but she's seriously happy with her POS Henckel's (China made) "International" kitchen cutlery, so a semi-custom (China made) knife will be a step up for her.

And WW has a Craftsman......all he has to do is use it. Maybe he's afraid of being criticized by professionals ;).

I have a Craftsman 2x42 with ceramic platen.... Really im just chicken sh!t about messing them up once i have already invested a handful of money into them....

Plus now im suppose to keep the place/basement included, reasonably clean because potential new tenants could be coming by to see the place... She has to give me a days notice... But still, cleaning up the mess from hand filing only takes a couple minutes... Cleaning all the dust from grinding in a basement with no air circulation or windows takes a couple days LOL

LMAO, barely beat me to it.

But i dont mind criticism at all, especially not by professionals.

I do have a surgery coming up the end of march thats costing me several thousand dollars after all insurance and then a move in July to Finance so i am just playing it a bit safe is all. No real experience grinding yet, but i can get pretty consistent results filing by hand. Much more time involved... Less worry involved.... It is what is.... FOR NOW.

Excuses, excuses

Take that bad boy out in the backyard. The fresh wind will blow all the dust away and you can just dip the steel in the snow when it gets hot :D

I agree. There is always a way to get some peanut butter in the mix!!

Not pretty i know.... But the bevels are cut. :D Now just to clean them all up, get them oiled up, boxed and sent to PHT!! Glad the bevels are done. Still some filing and hand sanding before i ship them off but the hard part is over thankfully. Small or not.... 60 is a LOT!!

Sweet, how do I get one? Any pictures of one in your hand for a size comparison?

Thanks man those look awesome. BTW, what are you calling them?

Supposedly this brother model comes with a starter toner rated at 700 pages, and there are replacement toners that cost 30 bucks rated at 1200-2600 pages. Much better than these bargain inkjets.

Yeah I bought a brother HL-2270DW wireless about 5 years ago. It has been a great printer. I think you will get well over 2000 plus pages printed on their toner cartridge. I print many reams of paper (500 count) and rarely change the toner. I am guessing just printing invoices and shipping labels I get a good 5000 pages per toner cartridge.

Well it serves you right for letting those cattle loose all over the highway last week.

Oh, and like fell better or whatever.

I actually do dip blades in snow during the winter on a pretty regular basis myself, as it happens. I don't think I'll have that problem this next winter, after the move to San Antonio though... Got some more 3V for a Falconized katana-like-object ordered; giving Aldo another chance. I placed the order over the phone and they assured me it was in stock, so if they jerk me around for 2+ months like he did the last two times I ordered, I'm done with them forever.

Heck yea thats good to hear! Thats basically all mine will be used for as well.

Looks like mine will be here tomorrow... Good stuff.

Got the handles from Tommy for the parangatang and they are awesome!! Only problem is the factory hardware doesnt fit and i dont have any of the needed hardware to attach them... So that'll have to wait. But he did a great job on em.

Mountains out of mole hills fellas, granite, from the pics I saw, (assuming there the same ones JT saw) Sure it got overheated a little, but if your dyeing those handles to be darker,, its a non issue. I work with enough curly maple to know that much. I wouldnt sweat over that, but you might want to be aware that heat also breaks down your epoxy and greatly reduces its capabilities. Just food for thought, the handles look pretty great as far as I can tell.

Whats frustrating about Aldo is the fact that hes just trying to be to great of a guy. Aldo himself is a fantastic dude that does his craft a fantastic service. He will go way beyond what he has to to do good by his name and company. However, he is also a great humanitarian. A lot of the people he hires he hires from what I understand are second chance kinda people if you know what I mean. Fantastic for him as far as helping out his community, but not so good as far as his business goes.

I got kinda pissed off last time I ordered from him too. I paid a extra $200. Bucks for my steel to be precision ground. When I got it, it was .015 oversized. I could of gotten closer by eye. I called Aldo and he said they do no precision grinding there. I asked him why his salesman said he could and charged me the $200. clams. His response was. "He didnt know any better"

Most places wouldnt put up with that shit too long. But I think hes trying to give people a chance and I can respect that from him. I still order from him from time to time, but my bigger bulk stuff I get through another supplier now.

Now that's a critique I can handle.....;). Good to know about the epoxy, tho. That maple was burning a little cause my 220 belt was a little worn. Switched to a fresh 320 and finally started hand sanding. I'll post some more pics in the Beckerhead Knife Making thread tonight.

I don't even try to machine sand hardwood to 220-i stop at 120 and hand sand, because both my grinders just fry wood (and micarta, for that matter). Granite, that'll disappear once it's stained. Very nice.
The nicest pieces o tiger maple I've ever had came out of my woodpile...

WW, those Hex Hawks are awesome. Looks like it would be easier to carry than a neck knife but just as useful or more so because of the hex wrenches.

Got my 6 in today. Really nice blade, and fits my hand, haha:
