So my girl cooked a turkey last night and used my BK-9 to carve it. Well she put the knife in the dish washer last night and it looks like this now

I hope you showed her. It's the only way some people will learn...
In addition to the carbon steel issue, no objects made of different materials should go in a high-heat environment unless designed specifically for it.
 
That is just plain horrible. You should request intercourse for compensation.

Just don't tell her that you cleaned it up with a bit of sandpaper in 20 minutes.



On a more pleasant note, it looks like my BK16 will get here tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to this knife. I like the BK-2 a lot, it's just sometimes too much knife, and pretty heavy. I can even EDC the 16 legally, without a "legitimate reason" which I would need for a blade over 12cm (the 2 is 13,5cm). So I think it might easily become my go-to knife, and even quite the woods tool, combined with an axe of some sort and my Victorinox Supertool.

Cool, she antiqued your blade. Sand it out and renwax it. :)

Dishwashers are evil for knives. Even knives that say they are dishwasher safe get washed by hand in our house. Well...the dishwasher actually just bit the dust, but historically...
 
Thats a sweet patina I think I will try that with mine. What cycle did she use to get that look.

If you're a fan of the couch put some of her favorite jewlery in the dishwasher and say you wanted to clean it for her :D lol jk, but make sure she knows not to do that again.

Well, ok then.

BK9 in the dishwasher, no big deal. Hit it with some steel wool and mineral oil, and let it ride.

Now, I would really put on the heavy "you messed it up......" pull some pantie magic on the GF and tell the MIL that she needs to get you another knife since that one was ruined.
