Snark Will Tear Us Apart

Murph already dresses like the guy in the middle. A man ahead of his time.

maybe...he went back to the future???

another day, another year; at work with nothing to do except read snark and maybe pop a movie later. Happy '15 y'all!!!

I had Nick, of NixCustoms make a leather tomahawk loop holster for me some time ago. I wanted it to have a 2" diameter, which honestly, was too big. Nick even thought so at the time, but, that's what I wanted. I sold the tomahawk some time back, but kept the loop. Fast forward to today. I got the Roselli axe for Christmas, which has a thicker handle than the tomahawk, and fits the loop holster like it was made for it. I knew I had it made big for a reason, haha.

Thank you for reminding me! I owe him some money!

I love it when a plan comes togather!

re: Blatz... there used to be a dive bar back in WI that had Blatz on tap for $4 a pitcher... at the time that was $2 less than other horrible cheap domestic beers. It always had the same effect on me as it did on Daizee's friend's parrot... we used to joke that we'd be willing to pay an extra dollar if every pitcher came with a free diaper. :o

Just pretend you planned it that way, no one will be the wiser :p

Here's a few photos.

The base is slightly larger, but still fits through just fine:

This is about the largest part of the handle, besides the bottom:

All the way down. :

The sheath seems to be raw leather. I need to do something with it me thinks.

Worked on my FFG 16 a little. This is the one I ran stock through the ESEE survival class.
Added some green liners and longer screws. Ground the screws back to flush and brass blacked the ends. Broke out the heat gun and some sandpaper and tuned up the sheath mouth so the wider handles would fit. Feels better to me with the thicker handles.

Looks pretty handy to me, W. I have a couple inexpensive hawks I've been meaning to make sheaths for... I may steal some ideas from your pics :)

Don't look "raw" from here. If it was, it woulda fallen apart by now. A little neetsfoot oil, gum tragathanth or sno-seal would be good for it. Dye it first if you want it much darker.

Y'all know how much I love the 16. It's not just a knife, it's a kit! Kinda like a classic muscle car from the late 60's/early 70's... runs like a raped ape right off the factory floor, but you can also tweak it and make it even awesomer.

try Yogurt too. homemade half&half yogurt will blow your mind. Low-carb too. :D

I've done that before - and drained it to make a fairly solid "cream cheese" -- when you do that, you can freeze the whey and use it later for yogurt starter.

That sounds pretty interesting. Do you buy a starter to get the right bacteria going, or what? You'd think I would know more about it, being from WI and all, but I never studied it... just ate it. And cut it, of course :o

some of the recipes call for citric acid (lime/lemon juice), some for cider vinegar, and others for rennet (with or without vinegar, depending on the type of cheese)
I found Junket brand rennet in the baking section at the grocery store -- it's also used for making cutards & ice cream.
A lot of recipes also call for buttermilk with active cultures - and I happened to have that in the cabinet in a freeze dried form which still seemed to work fine.

It has two snaps you can't see at the base of the belt loop, so you can put it on with undoing your belt.

Haha.

looks to me that it has a sealer coat of some sort on it - probably carnauba wax cream -- but if it were mine, I'd give it a good coating of Obenauf's, mink oil, or Sno-Seal if you have that.

I'm really wanting to get a hawk, but after purchasing that Yuma, it might be awhile. I'm also thinking about getting an old plumb head off the bay and rehanging it myself, hmmm

I'm sure it does. I didn't use the right terminology. Unstained would have been more appropriate. Raw in color.

Gotcha... lots of ways to darken that up.

You raise a very interesting point about using snaps so you can add/remove a sheath to your belt or whatever without getting half-undressed... sometimes you have a knife or tool on your belt and need to go into a liquor store or court-house, where they kinda frown on that sort of thing. I've been pondering on that for some time and will be unveiling a new sheath design or two in the coming year. ;)

I did the same to my BK2 sheath mod. Snaps on the belt loop, then the buckle comes undone, so you can leave the loop there. Easy on / off. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/845352-BK2-Sheath-Mod.-Extremely-Photo-Heavy

Btw, the Roselli axe sheath has a belt loop on the back of it, but I can't imagine that being as handy as a loop holster. http://backcreekbushcraft.blogspot.com/2011/03/roselli-axe-reveiw.html

just made a batch of bacon & venison goulash to take to deer camp tomorrow.
