Snark Will Tear Us Apart

If I had the money and time to just throw 'em out there, I'd love to sprinkle around some unmarked CPM-154, S30V, and S35VN blades in a passaround-type deal, and just see who could tell the difference between them.

;)

Oh, that's easy. S30V chips when you look at it, and S35VN feels kind of "Scandanavian." CPM-154 is the other one. See?

I got a new Spyderco in recently, a really nice little gentleman's knife with a Wharncliffe blade, and the inside surface of the lockbar looked pitted as hell. It appears, however, that it's the norm and that the "Moki" plant in Seki City simply isn't finishing that part. Not what I associate with Spyderco at all, which has traditionally been some really nice craftsmanship for production knives. It's not even noticeable unless you peer down into the handle, but it bothered me enough that I'm sending it back. Just has that Pakistani pot metal look, you know? For a knife costing over $100, I'd kind of like to see decent finish on all the parts.

Well geez, thanks for spoiling the surprise for everyone else, ya jackwagon. :grumpy:

Next, you'll tell us there's no such thing as Sandy Claws.

Well, some people will insist that S35VN feels more Eurasian, but those people aren't to be trusted.

When a dude makes a point of putting "m'er'effer" in his logo

Yeah, my old checkbook fell apart, and I nearly ordered one of his checkbook covers, but the big "Made in the MF'ing USA" tag was actually a turn-off. It is blustery and arguably disrespectful.
I suppose I could remove that tag, but I'm just going to get my wife to sew me one out of 1000 denier cordura. It'll still be made in the USA but not make a show of it.
That said, the products I've seen are good. The rigger's belt Murph showed me looks great. I have one item, a flashlight sheath, from them, and it is well made gear. No tags on it. Just a simple, well thought-out execution.

James -

Was digging around in the knife makers forum trying to learn something  and found a series of posts between James_Terrio and BlackMantis from down under (the thread where you "announced" having to change your user name). Just curious as to whether he ever had you make that Resident Evil knife for him?

That's what I've heard too, from people I trust. My opinions and gut-instincts are only that... and they're worth exactly what anyone paid for 'em. I just calls 'em as I sees 'em, because... well... there it is.

No one here nor there gives a fat flying leap at rolling donut made of barbed wire and chlamydia what I think about that stuff, nor should they. ;)

Yup... not one, but two. That was one helluva challenge. Gimme a minute, I'll dig up the pics.

Same here. For me, it is simply a matter of decorum. There are times when I'm fine with tossing "MF'er" or "MF'ing" out there. Writing a check at Walgreens just isn't one of them. :D

I'm not entirely sure what that means, you silver-tongued devil. I'm just glad I have two bags of Guyon's Salty Nuts stashed away...

Man! The Snark train done pulled outta the station without me. Seems like I was here just yesterday and missed out on 3 pages.

As far as SOE goes, I only know of them and the owner through a coulpe of FB links and didn't like what I saw. The guy kinda reminds me of someone who thinks he is special or differnt than everyone else and that the rules of civility don't apply to him. Not my kinda people. I'm 100% sure that his business is doing well and will continue to do so without my support.

I try to give my money and support to people that I like, admire and respect. Ethan Becker and the folks at KaBar being very high on that list. Then there are a couple of guys around here that I would go out of my way to support and intend to do so as when possible this year. I'm talking to you JT!! :D

I have zero issue with any of that. Like I said earlier, I don't know the man and his business has nothing to do with mine. So it doesn't really matter to me.

"Misread", my behind. He knows exactly what he's doing, and he's gonna have to deal with the backlash.

When a dude makes a point of putting "m'er'effer" in his logo and markets his wares based on genitalia like a giggly 12-year-old and goes out of his way to call his (female) clients " f*****g c***s"... that's not just a good ol' boy "being himself", that's a dude making a conscious effort to promote a certain sort of attitude... which is clearly, "I'm a hard guy and you can kiss my ass cause I said some naughty words in public heheheh.".

Where I come from, that kinda dude is called an asshole.

I'm not impressed, I'm not buyin' it, and yeah, I really do find it offensive.

Obviously, lots of folks love that blustery BS. Not me. I don't care for that nonsense. I don't respect it at all. I'd be seeing-red IRATE if he talked to me, or especially my wife or daughter like that. *shrug*

Ehhh, fair enough JT, I don't disagree with you. But to your final statement there, I too would see red if he conducted that way around or to my wife or daughter, my point is, he has not. The guy has treated me with nothing but respect, and as long as he continues to do so, im not gonna tell the town folk to get out there torches and pitchforks to lynch the guy. And even though I already stated I don't agree with his business logic, im not going to speak ill of him for it. To each his own.
As far as the whole MFer thing. Yeah im not the most mannerly person in the world and ive dropped a few here and there, but that doesn't mean I want it written all over everything. Nor do I want to advertise my business that way. Murph wears one of there badge holders while at blade at my table, it has the MFer tag on it, I make him cover it up. Do I find it offensive, not really, do I see that it may be to other people, yes so, that's why I make him keep it covered.
My whole original point to all of this was just that the guy has been respectful to me, and until he is not, he get the same amount of respect from me. As far as his product, ehh, not necessarily my thing, but they seem to be made well.

I cant say that I blame you. But I'd contact Spyderco and tell them the reason your returning it, who knows, maybe they will change there processes if enough people complain about it. That part looks like it's cast, figure it should have sheer marks on it if its a unfinished stamped part. Strange.

Awww snap... I've been called out. Now I'ma hafta be all respectable and courteous and treat people like human beings and not call them dirty names and stuff

;)
Naahh, just be your usual self. We all like you just the way you are. Hmmm... Like might be too strong but at least we're used to you by now. ;)
