Heading to the title company... It has been a long stressful transition but things are coming together now. One small mortgage payment will be a lot better than a big one and a small one. Also got the cast off yesterday!

I've been hitting the treadmill at work a lot lately when I have time but I want to start going outside more on my days off. Anyone recommend an app that can keep track of how far I'm going? Time and elevation change would be nice too.

Well, don't know of any phone apps that work on a treadmill, but a fitbit counts yours steps and gives an "almost" accurate estimate of distance walked.

Fitbit or garmin watch pair it with my fitness pal and you get all kinds of cool help and stats

It's for when I'm not on a treadmill.

Tried one today but I didn't like it. Was trying to listen to music and it kept interrupting every 5 minuets with a status update that I couldn't turn off.

Exercise is hard. Derp.

I use a fitbit and/or an app called Strava, fitbit for walking and Strava for running/biking.

I used to use Runkeeper on the iPhone. It is a good app.

Everything is Garmin now though, including the hardware. As shown below, I have a Garmin Forerunner 220 watch, the HR monitor, and a foot pod (the latter for when I am on a treadmill).
The data all loads automatically through my phone into the Cloud (GarminConnect), where it is synced with Runkeeper and my employee-health-incentive program.
Because of the nature of the program, I also use a Fitbit pedometer. I just bought the cheapest little Zip model for counting steps.

I have lots of gadgets - just got a Suunto Ambit2 off the exchange - but if you're just looking for an app (as you say you are) then there are a million out there. I've used MapMyHike, and it seemed to work pretty good on my shitty phone (with a dodgy GPS receiver), though I haven't used it in a while (it's been uninstalled). From what I (think I) remember is the free version makes you sign up and then bugs you to subscribe now and then....but it didn't seem that bad to me. Though I will say I generally am able to ignore that stuff if what I'm getting is free..... It tracks your GPS route, so: distance, elevation gain, time, average speed.....lotsa stuff. I've also used Simply Walking as well....no ads, decent but kinda spartan usefulness....tracks time, distance, speed, steps - which must use the accelerometer, because it's pretty accurate - and it guesstimates calories burned. I'm sure there are plenty of apps out there....I found those two by Play Store-fu and looking at the ratings, so.....blind chance, really.

Now, for going COMPLETELY off topic: I finally got an Izula (with Micarta!) of the Exchange. Funny that when I first looked at it, my first thought was that there was something off about that BK-14's blade....
So far I like it. Also, because of allay'all's universal praise of the ESEE 6, one of those should be here tomorrow, wearing orange G-10 slabs. That one, I'm kinda excited about.

Excellent use of allay'all's GSOM. Many Northerners struggle with the plural possessive.

Hey bigghoss, keep up the good work, get out running even if it's just a block, I've been running in the morning and using s health, its a built in app on Samsung android phone, I think apple has something similar. I just run my head phones under my shirt and keep my phone in my hand. When I started running I couldn't even run a block without getting winded, 3 weeks later and I can run 2.5 miles without stopping. My next goal is 3 miles and keep expanding the milage as I progress. That app tracks, speed, distance even howany steps you walk during the day.
