Well at least the hail has stopped for now

ah, walnut, freshly made, i shall know its pleasures soon enough

someone i know gifted me a buttload of walnut stumps if i was willing to cut them myself, and oh yeah, help him get 40,000 lbs of logs resourced ;) lol

so, i got a bandsaw, and then a ripping jig, and time... tried this with one some what seasoned log:

need to make more of those, and ... then everything comes together? :D

Cripes.
Derek returns from his cave and breaks Snark HARD!
My hat is off to you, sir.
I think we should pin him down and pull on his mustache.
Who wants to go first? (not it!)

That mustache is packed away safe and sound so you hooligans can go pester Vic and his facial hair!

I mowed two days ago and I don't know if it's the allergens or what but it put me down for the last two days. Pollen can go pound sand.

You mowed your face and hid your 'stache? Chicken. :p

Bladite, I do perceive some nice stick tang handles in those curly sections...
It tends to be pretty light when dried. If you can stabilize it once it's dry enough, it would be really versatile.

Excellent idea. I'm going to get some scraps from my SIL. I've been wanting to make some scales for this salvaged Kabar on the bottom.

No, just hid the 'stache for safekeeping. Vic had a good one last time I saw him though.

so at the local East Gathering, Mad Indian kindly showed us come Shepherd's Slings...

this is what i came up with a couple decades back:

the triangular pattern of holes and strings gives a lot of strength, and self centering too... keeps the knots out of the way

the leather was wet formed and creased around a suitable object...

i scored a fair bunch of different things, with different qualities.

some is dark as chocolate, and some has that golden sheen

i'd imagine that it will fairly glow when oiled and planed smooooth.

gotta have a play date with the band saw on occasion and rip rip rip a few bunches so they dry differently

some of the slabs are many feet wide and more tall - i have a kinda of King's Chair in mind someday

i'm going to sign up for HBO for a month after the show is alllllll done, then binge. people at work have been yelled at by high management for even saying the shows name "did you watch IT" -- "SHUDDDDUP or i'm calling HR"

lol

Has anybody read the Casca series. I read one book and it put me on a quest to find all 24 from flea markets and yard sales. They were written by Barry Sadler. Ballad of the Green Berets fame. I passed the series onto my son and now my grandson is reading them.
