Damn, I didn’t realize I’d been away for this long.
I missed the Tuko. Sad face.
Hope you all are doing well.
I’m really looking forward to a gathering. Been some changes in my life. Most for the best ;);)
For sure Welcome back ;)

Sliiiiiice...About damn time you returneth.

i have a lovely old forged froe ... could be 50-100+ years old. i dunno. no maker's marks. i rerusted it, and use it. could have been made yesterday. thanks Randy!

i also have a new modern Buck Froe - one of the few things i've stripped on purpose to remove the nasty red paint. has walnut handles.

ironically, one of those slabs "split" itself recently. too many humidities? WHILE splitting walnut. so, it's rest with some zapadappa acrylic glue, and will clean up nice. still. now i kinda want to set those aside, and install some polymer grips and not twerky hardware. this is a tool made to be WHACKED. at the same time, eh, gorilla tape and some sticks. whacking :D 5160 steel. 1/4 in thick. it's pretty decent.

still, i have a 30+ inch log to split clean, and i want the grain lines across rings to follow - hard to do with wedges. almost be great to have a 36 inch sharp froe... two people, whack on contact. boom boom.

Drinking some coffee and preparing for the Collective Arts Liquid Art Fest at noon. 50 craft breweries from all over the world, some cool bands and food trucks – should be fun.

Way too much beer for a wagon rider to entertain! Coffee on the other hand, .... :)
Mr. Post Office just left me with some new Stoody hardfacing rods; the plan unfolds.....:D

Next time use one of your 1/4" Machaxes you would not have had any issues :D

the Buck version is longer, and is an actual froe... nothing wrong with the knife part.

Machaxe is not quite the right shape for a good split

Hmm...

Now I'm wondering if a person could take an unground machax blank and do a reverse bevel (edge as spine and spine as edge). Maybe that would be a more suitable froe. Yo.
