Welp - there went the rest of that treetop. Only this other half didn’t fall clean down and just broke over the fence line and is still precariously attached to the trunk.

I was useless today.
But on Saturday we went for a half-day hike that just about killed me (heat, dehydration), but made it. And yesterday I spent 5 hours in the forge walking a friend's partner thru forging a garden trowel. HOT and sweaty, omg. so.. pretty useless today.

I went riding Saturday. Local Nature preserve. I park in the back lot , up to the gate and back is 2.5 miles as I got back to the vehicle on the second lap it started thundering to the west. I could have rode more but I don't play with thunder and lightning

Video kills the radio star.
The Buggles - which was basically just Geoff Downes from Yes...and Trevor Horn, from just about everywhere. First video played on MTV - that song is IMO the best earworm ever crafted. Been listening to a lot of up-tempo Celtic and prog/rock/alt-Celtic (wordless, mostly) music while woodshop werking....keeps me focused and moving along at least as well as any ADHD meds I've tried. Good for driving distances, too - for me, at least.

One can't be "useful" every day - especially on a day after being used up. I am trying to learn that recovery is not just unproductive down time, but a necessary part of moving forward...like an orbiting satellite, slowing down to GAIN altitude. Plus, now you have some hike fitness and an appreciative friend...

I have cut back on nearly everything I was doing for exercise, 'cause most of it was causing pain (and exacerbating damage) with no gain. Been trying to get out and walk in our local town forest (The Urban Forestry Center), just to get outside - which is what I find the most helpful - and, come to think of it, one of the main reasons the 'Heads are where I find home: most everyone in this sub is outdoors oriented - as demonstrated by our Gatherings. Also been taking photos and looking for mushrooms...tho the photos are looking like they're going to be my supplemental income stream until SSI kicks in. NHDoE Vocational Rehab program has taken me on as a client, which means the state is spending a little money to suss out and help me to find a new work path, since the one I was on for ~30 years I can no longer travel. Took a bunch of evaluation tests and had a 2 hour consultation with PhD MBA counselor, after which I decided to pursue an independent career as an artist/maker - which I reckon is synchronous with this Independence Day.

I didn't have time to go to one of my good places to ride a bike. So I went to the short trail close to the house. Even a couple miles outside and on a bike helps my anxiety. Also testing the new pedals for my good bikes. Wide pedals are definitely easier on my feet

Anybody have and end-user experience with Nitro-V? I might have to do some birudashi out of it vs. AEB-L due to availability. Haven't made anything from it yet.

Gotta couple of Civivi folders, and they perform a lot like 14C28N, but I think Nitro V would be a good candidate for a fixed blade.

Cool, thanks. Do you know how hard they run it? Any chipping at low edge angles?

Got down to 57° last night, decided to have a late supper over the fire.

Old Coleman lantern I picked up at the antique shop a few years back:

A little brighter without the flash:

Fire:

Dogs, chips and dip, watermelon balls. and lemonade to wash it down with:

The leaning lantern of Dubz:

Obviously, crappy phone pics. My phone camera sucks.

That was an interesting storm system this afternoon.
So far I've cleared the black locust that came down by the end of the driveway. Looks like it slid down the guy wire for my power pole.

There was another branch that was removed from a different tree and dropped on the other side of the truck, where SWMBO parks. Good day for her to be working in Kansas City.

25 minutes later: viva los cordless sawzall!

Easy to see the advantages of cordless tools, but I've still got my full gamete of corded tools. I pulled out the corded chainsaw to remove a bad oak limb from our 56 year old coast live oak. I tied it off through a carabiner to a higher branch, and lowered it after the cut. It was quite the wrecking ball as it swung!

woah! Cool technique.

I bashed the new off the Keppoon with some dried downed maple bits before packing it just to make sure there wasn't some hidden weakness. Came through fine and the carnage washed right off:

Also prepped a cinch-strap with some no-longer-climbing-worthy webbing and reclaimed buckles from a decommissioned pack. Then immediately needed it to compress my sleeping bag into the NEW pack. Yay fabric arts!:

Nothing like a heavy duty thread injector and some leftover bits to tackle the tactical tie strap...
