Thanks guys, appreciate it. It's going to be a tough road for me. I loved the guy, he's always been very good to me. My dad died in December, 1986, age 48, of cancer. Passed 2 days after my 23rd birthday. Just lost me second dad.

Thanks man.

He seemed like one of those guys that was going to live to 105. Up until he was about 95, he swam 500 yards per day in his swimming pool. He dropped it down to 300 per day, then recently, to 200. A week ago Tuesday, he had my wife take him to ER, because he was having a hard time getting air. They thought he had pneumonia, but turned out to be advanced pulmonary fibrosis. Had the oxygen turned all the way up, but was making no improvements. They gave him 1-2 days to live, and he decided to be taken off oxygen, and given morphine. He lasted for about an hour and a half after that. I was requested to bring a bottle of Johnny Walker Red, which I did. We all saluted him, shared a last drink, and said our goodbyes.

My old man through a stubbornness almost did himself in. Refused to go to the hospital...turned out a UTI went septic AND got pneumonia. It was the step sister who cajoled him to get to the hospital. There was a spot on his lung and the doctor tried to make him stay, even though they found that spot a few years ago and it never got bigger. Since he got his appendix out. So sis being a hospice nurse was able to get him hospice care at home when it looked to the doctor it was a good idea. Don't know if it was planned or not to keep an 87 year old man out of a germy hospital, but he's getting better now getting the medical care at home and not in a place where its easy to catch things that can be fatal to older folks. Stubborn old man is getting better and not going to go just yet.

Sounds like he lived like he meant it right up to the end, then went out on his own terms and everyone was given a chance to say goodbye.
Doesn't get much better than that.
I agree. He went out with dignity. Sad to to watch him die. I'm nearly 60 years old, and he's the first person I've ever watched pass.

Dubz, I'm so sorry for your loss.
Sending good vibes your way.
Cherish all the best parts of him and make them a part of yourself.

Thanks guys, appreciate it. I felt bad being in his house today, going through his stuff. Felt like I was invading his territory.

Yippee?
We had a storm roll through around midnight, the day has been alternating sun and clouds - feels like it should do something, but hasn't.

Thanks man.

What a gift! May we all go out on such good terms.

My condolences on your loss, Dubz.

We could use some rain up here, so if you guys don't want it send it this way. I don't think we've had any significant rain in over a month.

Sorry for your loss Dubz. I remember you mentioning him in a lot of your posts over the years and it seemed you were very close. Losing someone like that is never an easy pill to swallow. I hope you and your wife are doing well.

Rain? I've heard of this mythological thing but no longer believe it exists. Our lowest high temp for the next 10 days is supposed to be 101 - 9 days from now.

I do believe that I need to suffer a bit to feel like summer actually happened, but I hit that point mid-July. Now I'm counting the days until mid-October arrives with it's first, real cool front.

Also kind of hoping for a Cat 1 hurricane to quickly blow through and bring a little relief.
