Sneaky Pete Sneak Peak

Sweet snow (feel a need for skiing) and I love maroon linen :D

So I have noticed :) I like the deep rich color myself.

That knife is gorgeous !

Yep, Andy does some pretty nice work ;)

Great thread mistwalker. The contours on the Sneaky Pete handle certainly have me intrigued. I always love your pictures of food prep and the outdoors.

I hope you get adjusted to the colder temps in your environment. schmittie and I live in central illinois in the same town and it has been in the teens at night and right now it is snowing again. We have had fires nearly every night. The thing I do enjoy about the snow though is the fact that it makes it easy to see tracks from wildlife.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoy them man. Oh, I'll adjust I believe, was out playing in the snow all day today :) Looking at the tracks in the yard, I think a large fox passed through just after dark.

Several times I've thought I have all the Fiddlebacks that I will ever need and then something else comes along that pulls me back in. The Sneaky Pete did that, and now I'm waiting on a Big Sneaky since last week's announcement. One with a bolster and some maroon linen, like last week's Asp, would be great.

I absolutely fell in love with that bolstered Asp last week, and I would have loved to have a Big Sneaky earlier today.

Hey Mist, what kind of fungus did you remove from that tree? Any uses for it?

It's horse hoof fungus, and once prepped it makes a decent tinder material for flint and steel. Some call it false tinder fungus.

When I got up this morning to load my tools in my pickup , the thermometer in my truck read 1 degree

That was us yesterday, the schools were closed due to low temps and ice on the roads.

-26 here this morning!

Yep, will definitely be visiting Vermont in late summer or early autumn, NOT winter :)

great review...i just cant warm up to the sneaky pete

I can't either. If it had a bigger guard and was rampless, I'd be all over it.

Mist's threads are always enjoyable though.

Thanks Mist.

The Sneaky Pete is absolutely my most comfortable handle. It is hand filling no matter how big your hand is. Where your hand wants to be, it is, where your hand is not, there is the knife. Its uncanny how well this knife locks into your palm in every position. I handed the Big Sneaky to Dylan yesterday, and he did a double take. When you hold it, you immediately feint a thrust. Then you let it turn in your hand, and realize you could comfortably cut your steak with the knife. I'm absolutely bonkers for mine. Processed my squirrels easily and handled the bones perfectly too.

At first the Sneaky Pete looked Scary to me. I like tactical knives, but I'm not into fighting knives. One Friday morning (or afternoon) there was one black locust one, I could not resist. When I opened the pretty brown paper package... WOW. The Sneaky Pete looks totally different in person. I not have a 5/16" and a 1/8" I use for nearly everything. Just fun to use! It's kinda like Dylan's Hatchula II, a little aggressive and cool looking make these knives even the more fun to use! That handle just sits in my hand, like a broken in glove. It feels natural to me the way my 1911 does. If I had a 1/8" long bladed one for all purpose camp use and a short bladed one for pocket carry, I would be a happy man. For me the best are the thin handles, that are a little flat - nice!

I'm glad to see this review and response on such a different little knife.

I'm looking forward to this week's blue handled Asp, it looked much like a smaller Sneaky Pete!

I love the duality in the nature of the SP, it's a very functional multi-role tool. I was out doing some testing on a knife designed for the Spec Ops community and hand ground by a very well known member of the knife making community yesterday. It has a blade that puts me in mind of Andy's Woodsman with a tactical handle, and a few times I wished I had a Big Sneaky there to check out side by side just to see some things. That said, as for the smaller version, the bolstered Asp from last week is simply amazing, it still raises my heart rate to go back and look at it.

Oh, and a few more pics :)

Really lovin' this thread, Mist. Thanks for puttin in the time and effort ...

And on a selfish note, it's a good way for me to gauge the potential performance of the SP I picked up from the same batch as yours!

Keep 'em comin'!

... and thanks, Will and others, for putting the Asp on my "poor house" list!

Great pics Mist. Can you stop posting them now, so I don't have to buy a Sneeky Pete. Your reviews have already made me buy a Kephart, Recluse, and now I'm looking for a Woodsman.

Is it me or is that CPM-154 starting to own a light patina?

Have you sharpened the Pete yet?

OKAY OKAY... I give... I can't take it anymore..... I NEED A SNEAKY PETE! After all this Andy better have made a truck load of them this week!!!!

Just a bump in hopes of seeing more pics of Mist's Sneaky Pete.

That's going to be a little bit man. I am in the middle of a few complex projects and the Fiddlebacks I am playing around with on my own time right now are the Nessie and the Raptor :)

Andy sure wasn't kidding when he said the SP has an extremely comfortable handle in long term use. Perhaps he should do this same style handle with a drop-point blade also, for those who feel the spear-point blade doesn't suit them. This handle just melts into my hand, and offers great control of the blade.
