Snecx CKF Terra Patiently waiting

Anyone have experience with CKFs payment plan option?

I submitted an order for a Ti Terra with a payment plan request in the comments as advised. I received an email stating if no payment is received in two hours they’ll cancel my order. Not sure what to make of it!

I might as well just pay in full and get it over with.

Did you send a payment of at least 1/3?

I just paid in full. But I think if you make the payment of 1/3 within that hour time slot you are good.

What other CKF’s do you own? Any good one offs? Like I said before I’m always open to a fair trade or in this case a sale that is more money in my pocket.

No option for that through the PayPal link. All or nothing are the only two options I’m being presented, and there were no options to initiate a payment plan during checkout other than in the order comments.

Certainly is confusing.

I got this for less than $900. It’s a Bugatti veyron compared to your Volvo.

You said, show me a midtech or custom holy grail knife that I have purchased for $900 that’s just as hard to produce as this knife. Well, I just showed you a one of one that is much harder to produce and much more expensive to make. I just trounced you. You never said that YOU had to find it beautiful now did you. I got more but I can see your a person that does not like logic.

What a bunch of crap to post here. Grow up.

Back OT - that is one amazing looking knife, absolutely spectacular.

That was the first time I got into an argument on this forum. For some reason that guy really had a hard on for the price of the Terra.

Few and far between that I've taken issue with anyone here, but that was simply coming into a thread and defecating on the floor.

Again, that is one amazing knife, even down to the basic shape. I would jump on that as a "standard" framelock with normal threaded fasteners. That blade actually speaks Rockstead to my eyes.

I really like how it looks and think the price is pretty reasonable for all the parts and work that went into it. I just don't like front flippers :(

Well the deadline to pay (according to the confirmation email) has passed and my order is still showing as active. So cancellations must be manual. Now it’s a waiting game for start of business in Moscow, but it looks like I might be good to go!

ETA: texted with Mike or Kate this AM, the pay plan is in effect. Which is good because my little baby girl is due in two weeks!

For future reference, when purchasing through the pay plan, all you need are comments stating you want to pay in installments and CKF will set it up through PP.

edit: oops, rushed here to say this and it looks like n850gt already noticed

Patiently waiting here for my Snecx CKF Terra. It just shipped today FRWK. Says 12-21 days expected to my area here in the great USA.
Good video posted below shows cutting action and complete break down and rebuild by hand.

I'll post pics when I get it. Cost was 910 anybody want make higher offer? Let me know hehe

Thanks for sharing the video. I'm actually a bit disappointed - it looks like it has a "traditional" pivot screw, just using the pocket clip as a wrench to fit the proprietary screwheads. At that point they might as well have put a T15 head on the clip.

The original Snecx IFS-20 had no threaded parts whatsoever - it's held together with engineering tricks and magic. I personally find it a lot more impressive. I thought the CKF version would be closer to that.

You could argue that the IFS-20 approach would be more expensive to mass manufacture, but you can get a cloned version from China for $350. Given that CKF does their manufacturing in China, they should have been able to make it without a threaded pivot and still had a tidy profit at their current price point.

Edited to add: video of the IFS-20:

Ok. Got my timascus terra.
Fit and finish very nice. Parts are almost too tight. Not easy to get the clip in and out.
Lots of spare parts which does help with my ocd, I think this can very well be edc.
Action. My first front flipper so I can’t compare. First, it’s gritty so tear down was needed. There was so much “dirty” oil, no way the ball bearings are going anywhere. I used a magnetic small disc to pull it off the blade and to hold both sides when I put in storage. Cleaned out all the gunk and re oiled. Actually I’m not sure if it’s a break in oil? Lol. It reminded me of my we knife eschaton that had action improve as I used it.
The pivot is screw in on both sides with a double female barrel. You can have the screw loose to force a better action but the blade will be off center. I tighten it to ocd approved even on both sides. That’s a problem with an oval design haha. I can feel the action improve with use.
On deployment. It’s a front flipper with a wrist flick. It’s a double click sound because of the detent ball then lock face sound or triple click if you are getting old like me and your elbow clicks too. In order to spydie flick it open you must put your finger into the hole then push down to the narrow part. The hole is very close to the body so it’s harder to deploy. So finger in and down and what that does is slightly pull the blade out and off the strong detent so you can just extend finger for deployment.
Interesting in the design is the double lock bar which I cannot figure why it exist. One side is for the lock face and one is the detent. Both have a detent ball. They could have just have one lock bar. I’m not sure if it’s for centering or making it symmetrical in design. So one side you do need the detent ball obviously for the detent hole. The other one just serves as a smaller area to glide on the blade stock otherwise it would be just the lock bar resting on the blade itself (big surface area and may scratch up a bigger area so it has a function in that) and that detent ball also prevent the blade from dropping although the blade doesn’t really drop, maybe too light. Have to see as it breaks in.
So it’s no shiro in action. Actually not many knives is shiro in action. But it is shiro in price. 1200 beans for the timascus. Is it worth it? Yeah the fit and finish is nice. The design is nice. It’s a limited run.
Forgive any grammar. I’m writing on the fly..

Edit:
The blade will never drop duh. The detent lock bar always on the blade even when you push off the lock face lock bar.

I ended up putting the caged bearings in and lubing it with Rem Oil. Action for me has always been good with front flipper. It seems even smoother now with the swap and getting all the heavy lube out. If tighten fully action and centering are fine. It doesn’t seem to loosen once tight. If you leave it loose it will like any other knife continue to loosen and blade starts to favor lock side. It’s still an awesome fact that you can field strip it with just your hands. Even if the clip is used as the tool for the pivot. It still goes together with ultra tight tolerances.

Oooo I do like the framelock

I think there were only 3 or some other small number made. Snecx kept 2 of them and sold one for $10,000 or something like that.

Clearly a Chinese cloner got it because there are Chinese clones of the original framelock that use all the same no tools construction. I’ve seen pictures of the original and the clone both broken down fully disassembled. The clone literally copied every single part. I’ve never wanted a clone so bad...good thing they are like 330$ or I might have a moment of weakness and commit a grievous sin.

No way I’m paying 330$ for a clone. Especially of such an intricate knife. That would he begging for dissapointment.

I really wish the Terra was a framelock.

Yeah I saw the clone as well. I didn’t even realize there was a clone of the original and the buster yikes. Makes you wonder if one of the high bidder is just a knife manufacturer.
Anywho it’s in a weird area because I think people getting clones are people who don’t have the financial means to get the original which is fine, maybe college kids or whoever is strapped with money. But this is not cheap for a clone so then who buys it? Not a knife fan who will not comprise ethics. You won’t fool anyone it’s the real deal so then what?
I also think it would be better if the manufacturer just be inspired by the design and do their own style. That would sell I think.
