SNG rant

How does this personal attack contribute to the thread?

Seriously!?!? I don't believe my post was derogitory to Steel Snob or anyone else for that matter. In fact, I didn't even mention any names.

And what is this "fan boy" you speak of? Is that something the kids in your high school are saying these days? I don't live very close to a mall, but when I do go there, I do carry my strider, is that ok with you?

What I do live close to though, is about a 15 mile radius that contains 4 or 5 correctional institutions. Inside one of which, Florida State Prison, a full Close confinement, single cell, maximum security prison I work 5 days a week, with hardned criminals. Most on which are on multiple life sentences and would make you pee your little pants. Before that I was a construction worker, and before that I served honorably in the U.S. Military.

Is that tough enough for you? Do I have the right to choose and purchase whichever knives I like? May I make a non-derrogitory post on a public forum without being berrated?

Steel Snob, I hope you have a good day, and enjoy whatever knife brand that you like to buy, and have the right to carry. I would prefer that you never respond to any of my posts from now on, and if you EVER cruise by Starke, Florida stop on by and maybe I drive you by where I work, where I deal with home-made knives covered in feces and Hep-C blood that I potentially face on a daily basis. Thanks for your time.

As far as factory produced knives go, yeah I enjoy a Strider whenever I can, and as I said in my last post they aren't for everyone and I don't recommend anyone to buy them at all. Leave more for the people who do like them anyway.

You didn't even bother looking to see who I had quoted as doing a personal attack, did you?
Go back and read it again.

grin,you made my day.
i am going to disagree about the s&w knives ,if you like strider say you do,i do so am i a fanboy...........:foot:

Looks like OP got his problem solved, that's good.

Steelsnob you have an anger issue or something, but I hope you get your PT back all fixed up. Everyone deserves to have their problems made right.

So-Lo is immensely knowledgeable, and I greatly enjoy his youtube videos. I am thankful that he posted some very useful information to me as a Strider knives owner and fan.

To the guy who suggested that the guys on the USN were spreading "dribble", Imma just say that that is neither true nor very nice.

As for the ZT versus Strider debate, only 1 ZT folder is Strider designed, and that's the 300 series. I havent had a chance to try one out for realz (ie own instead of handle) but there is a reason I have no hesitation dropping the cash for a Strider but dont own a 300; it's not a Strider. IMO it's too big, too bulky, too heavy, A/O in general sucks, the warranty isnt as good, it's a recurve (love it for edc, not so much for field use, again imo), lined instead of the 1 peice g10, doesnt feel nearly as good.

When considering if a Strider is worth the cost, I have said before that you are getting a knife with a 100 dollar insurance policy, except there is no adjuster or guy/gal in a cubicle trying to screw you. Just because something good exists for cheaper doesnt mean it's a better deal. Maybe I have high returns to quality or fulfillment or image? Who knows. Ill pay what a knife is worth to me, or Ill not buy it. I dont look at price/performance as the primary factor in my purchasing (overall utility is where I look).

Im not tactical or even tacticool. You will never mistake me for one of the fine men serving our country or a police officer or a MMA champion. Im just a college kid who has owned some nice knives and likes what he got and what he paid for his SnG.

You're right. I apologize. I had the worst experience in all my life with Striders CS and I thought I was being called a hater for daring to talk about it. Maybe I took it the wrong way and let my emotions get the best of me.

Lol, it was said in jest bro. I really don't like a $4 S&W knife.

P.S.
All my striders run as smooth as glass.

Does anyone have an SnG tanto that they use? I received one in a trade and it's already on it's way to a new home. I couldn't believe how obtuse the angle was on the edge. The top portion is more of a scraper than a cutting edge and while the straight edge portion of the blade was semi sharp, I couldn't get it to cut cleanly through paper without rips. The owner stated that it had just been returned to him from the Strider Spa and that it was sharpened while it was there. All I could figure is that they were breaking in an apprentice over there and that I held his handywork in my palm. I tried stones and strops and no matter what I couldn't get this thing sharp. I'd like to add that this is the only knife I own out of around 150 that I can't get a good sharp edge on so it's not my skills that are lacking.

I had a drop point SnG and it got crazy sharp for me. I also have a recurve PT and I can get it to pop hairs. So what's the deal with the crazy thick edge on the Tanto? It definitely makes for an extremely poor cutter. Why do they produce a knife that doesn't cut well?

No doubt Strider can put out good knives. The trouble with them is that they are so inconsistent with their quality control. As I stated previously of the seven Strider folders I have 5 are great and two need to be looked at. Seems to be about right for them when you take into account everything that is said through the various forums. I also have 8 high end production folders from another well known maker and they are all perfect, this again is in line with the general consensus when reading through the various forums.

I'm having trouble thinking of another company who puts out knives in a similar price range that can polarise knife collectors and users so much.

The owners of Strider have no body to blame but themselves.

I just got a GB, and a DB-L my first two tantos from Strider. The front edge is definitely less acute than others, but I believe that it's more for strength. On the fixed blade it's likely more for prying and scraping, as you said, rather than cutting with the front edge. Now I have considered touching up the long edge on that one.

As far as the GB folder the front edge is similar, but the cutting edge is plenty sharp. If I needed a slicer I'd definitely stick with the drop points.
I may snap some new photos for you soon.
