I was expecting no escape from the anti-gun "we told you so's" when all of this started, too. But, I didn't see any on the BBC "World News 24" (their answer to CNN?), which I watched every morning that I was in Italy and during our stopover in the UK. I also picked-up a couple of copies of "The Telegraph" (UK newspaper) and had my wife take a look at the Italian papers a couple of times. Not a peep of opinion on the subject. Only the "International Herald Tribune" (put out by the NY Times and Washington Post in conjunction with some European partners) carried an editorial on the subject, written by the NY Times.
I'm sure I must have missed it, but I'm not complaining. Either that, or I've grown so used to the BBC, that I automatically tuned it out.
