Snow

For some reason I enjoy seeing the snow at your place and not mine, Yangdu. :)
We are in for a big storm starting tonight and going through Wednesday morning. I would gladly send it back your way. :)

Nothing here in PDX yet - just 20 degrees... probably more like 9 if you factor in wild chill :(
Glad to see you guys got snow - coming from the Philippines, I never actually saw the stuff until I was 9! Thank goodness I'm pulling an anti-goose and heading up to Canada for the winter :D

No snow in Czech Republic, only warm rain. Ussually in this time we have cold winter and Xmass with snow. This year is strange.
BTW, knives are at home now and they are beautiful. I will order more because everybody likes it. :-) So thank you Yangdu.

Yeah, been a hot year so far, still waiting for winter to get here.

BTW Yangdu is kidding, that's not where the kukris are kept. That't the top of the elevator shaft that leads to the stock room with thousands of kukris on shelves, and finally to the stargate where she does her miraculously fast shipping.

Winter wonderland, need a shovel?

I'll make my standard snow shovel pitch; if you own a straight-handled snow shovel, you should buy one with an ergonomic (bent) handle. The first one I bought was an impulse item just because it was on sale, but I've never used a straight handled snow shovel since. It takes a little getting used to, but your posture is much more upright, causing less back strain and fatigue -- it really makes a lot more difference than you'd think.

Here's a pic of "Camp Hollowdweller" in last weekends snow.

The deck rail was visible this time yesterday morning, and you could see the dirt in the planter.

Man, second year in a row where Yangu got more snow in Reno than we got over here!

In lieu of having one of the ergonomic handled ones, I've adopted a modified technique for the bulk of my recent shoveling. Rather than stooping/squatting down during the push step of shovelling, I stand upright and push the shovel into the snow with one hand on the rear handle. Then I squat to lift with my free hand as close to the bucket of the shovel as possible. Seems to produce a lot less strain on my back. Your mileage may vary, fellow straight-handlers!

Guh, the forecast calls for another foot tonight. And it took me almost two hours to do my driveway last time:
