I just completed an interesting, even illustrative deal with Snwbrdr202.
I happen to have a rare Busse knife that's related to a few of his. He contacted me, very politely, and a deal was eventually arranged.
Money changed hands swiftly and easily -- off the knife went, properly packed, insured, and with delivery confirmation. Sadly, the knife did not meet expectations.
There was nothing wrong with the knife. It was precisely as I described it ... and a good, clear picture had already changed hands. It just lacked in a detail or two that made it less than perfect for him.
How many deals on BF and other forums have gone badly wrong at this point? Hundreds? Thousands? Disintegrating into name-calling and even threats ...
Not this time.
Because we have both learned from those who went before and because we are both gentlemen, there were no problems whatsoever. I've learned from folks like Bastid and Eric Isaacson and Cobalt (and even Ren!!!) to always insist that the buyer take at least two days to closely examine the knife -- the deal is not over until the knife has passed that close personal inspection. In this case, it did not and it was returned -- no harm, no foul.
I have my knife back. Snwbrdr202 has his money back. We both still have our tempers, fully intact. And we will undoubtedly do business again in the future.
A cautionary tale. Perhaps even an allegory.
