So called "Real damascus" for under $100?

The Albatross isn't in the same class as the others you mentioned (I don't have any of them), but the Albatross is VG10 core, laminated damascus; not simply solid damascus as the others mentioned. Sort of apples and oranges situation. Mine has a razor edge. I hope it holds it, as I haven't had a chance to use it a lot yet. My Mcusta does both. Sorry you were disappointed with it. IMHO these are great slicers, not general hard use EDC. My EDC is a Vic Tinker.

I’m probably overly harsh.
To be fair, ive never owned any higher end damascus. So i could be wrong too. But the Skyline, and stuff like Mcusta, just couldnt compare to the Civivi in my eyes. Thats the reason i sold both of those knives.

Kyle Royer just posted this up where he breaks down a cheap damascus knife to show how these cheap ass knives are built and how they perform.

That’s a good piece jsega51. I wouldn’t buy a 3.5” folder for less than $300.

Some of the other forum users seemed partial to the inexpensive products.

I've read this post over the last few days off and on and have to say I've owned some pretty good damascus knives over the years. So I started looking on the bay for bargain damascus and was pretty over whelmed with the offerings and frankly put off by them. However I did find one seller from Texas that was offering a f.b. that to me looked decent and the price was under $40 and fee shipping. So I bought it. Received it and have to tell ya it is very well made with excellent grind lines a nice pattern to it and it is low and high carbon steel. Has a high Rc hardness well thought out grip, decent sheath that is nice and thick etc.etc. It was the last one the guy had. If I could post a pic I would but not a gold member and my photos' seemed to never work anyways when i was. All in all I am happy with it especially for the price. That's about it. keepem sharp

PS I am assuming it is made off shore, and you could take your pic probably of which country in Eastern Europe through central Asia. I used to have an Imigur account so I'll check it out and post a link if possible. I hope this link works. The steel is comprised of 1084/WS1 high and low carbon steel. The wood is olive wood so maybe this was made in Greece or Israel? Just guessing. It is very well made regardless of where it was made though. https://imgur.com/a/7sGeR9s

coolhand, albratross, kubey and a half dozen other "brands" are all made by the same factory.

Don't need to be gold to post pics hosted elsewhere. Just use a free imgur account.

I was going to start a new thread about this actually - does anyone know what civivi damascus actually is a mix of?

Like alabama damascus that kershaw uses is a known unique mix of steels & folding pattern

Is civivi's just 15n20 and 1095 or something? (I actually like this simple mix, often turns out nice)

(Interesting side note, civivi's high end brand, 'we' uses some nice damasteel damascus which is a mix of rwl34 and pmc27

No, it’s stainless. It’s supposed to be 9Cr18MoV as one of the steels. Note that the cheap steel a lot of budget knives come with is 8Cr13MoV - different beast.

I’ll be sending a sample to Pete over at the Cedric and Ada channel on YouTube for edge testing. Should be on his channel in a few weeks, hopefully. 9Cr has performed surprisingly well before.

Say what y'all want, but my dammy Bareknuckle is awesome.

It looks tight and is made in the US of A!

The wootz damascus of old was rediscovered by Alfred Pendray! He recently passed away I'm sorry to say! He did some work with Olamic knives recently and there is information about it on Olamic's website. A whole plethora of information is available by googling Alfred Pendray!! Lots of interesting tidbits to read about. Lots of time to have a looksee nowadays too!!
