so educate me...how do I become a knife snob?

#4 and proud of it!

Knives: the first and best tool of mankind.

Oh, and s30v kicks ass. If heat treated correctly. Though I love vg-10. And d2 is excellent. And....

Gee, I'm a steel snob!

Just because someone has an opinion, that doesn't make them a "snob."

Now if someone stops talking to you because your knife is inferior to their's, that's being a snob! :D

:thumbup:Agree with you on that one. Also would like to add that there are a lot of condescending tones to noobs from vets here & there that would qualify as snobbery.

Might these be a target of snobbery?

LOL and great question.

I'm new here, but have been collecting knives for many years. There are certainly varying degrees of knife-snobbery on this forum and others. But, if you really want to up your snob-quotient, make sure to do the following:

  • Develop the ability to quibble over the most trivial of features. This demonstrates your mastery of the basics and your ability to focus on the things most important to a genuine knife snob.
  • State clearly and often your affinity for a particular brand and do so forcefully enough as to avoid any embarrassing follow up questions or legitimate comparisons.
  • State clearly and often your utter disgust with a particular brand and do so forcefully enough as to avoid any embarrassing follow up questions or legitimate comparisons.
  • Come down hard on new manufacturers who have the gall to produce a knife that looks like someone else's, but be sure to give more established companies a free pass, in this regard. Nothing denotes snobbery quite like a subtle (or not so subtle) nod to the old and contempt for the new.
  • Always be quick to attack that which you do not like, even if merely on sight alone. Nothing says "snob" as well as the ability to render an otherwise well manufactured knife a piece of junk with a few well placed and devastating comments.

Hope this helps.
